Job Summary

Coordinate various health and safety practices and programs designed to safeguard all employees and to create a work environment conducive to employee wellbeing. Advises organization on regulatory changes and investigates incidents and ensures risks are addressed.  Oversees EHS reporting and documentation to ensure proper documentation and reporting according to internal and external standards.  Supervises, participates and develops the training of employees on EHS policies, procedures and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Become thoroughly familiar with all federal, state, and local health and safety laws.  Recommend actions to keep the plant in compliance with these laws.     Ensure that the Human Resources Manager is aware of the status of all safety related programs.Direct and serve as chairperson of the Plant Safety Committee.Conduct or assist in plant housekeeping and safety inspections.  Coordinate corrective actions if necessary.Develop and implement educational and training programs that are relative to safety.  Orient new employees and update current employees on safety and health procedures.Inform First Line Supervisors of their safety-related duties; safety training, safety inspections, removal of hazards, and proper use of injury/illness investigations employee’s report of injury/illness.Assist in accident investigation and ensure that the proper reports are completed.  Recommend corrective action.Schedule, monitor, and recommend action based on employees’ post offer, return-to-work, and periodic physical examinations.Establish, staff, and stock the plant’s first-aid facility.  Provide first-aid treatment of on-the-job illness and injury when present.  Ensure that properly trained persons are available to give first aid on other shifts.  Maintain first-aid treatment records and reports.Purchase, distribute, monitor, and maintain the use of safety medical supplies and equipment.Establish and maintain employee medical workers’ compensation and health insurance records and files.Process all workers’ compensation claims.Keep current on the latest safety procedures and equipment by maintaining membership in appropriate organizations, attending pertinent seminars, and reading professional journals.Maintaining and upholding the isocyanate policy within the company.Implement and ensure compliance with all testing, monitoring, and record-keeping requirements of the Corporations’ Isocyanate Policy for plants that produce polyurethane foam.Notify the Human Resources Manager and the Plant Manager of any isocyanate air concentrations in excess of allowable limits.  Monitor actions to correct unacceptable isocyanate concentrations in the air.Conduct training to ensure that every employee is aware of the potential hazards exposure and is familiar with proper safety measures.Analyze all jobs and their component tasks to identify potential exposure to isocyanates. Maintains a list of all such jobs and the employees assigned to them.Develop written procedures for every job task where an employee’s failure to perform the job properly could result in injury or a safety issue.Prepare, administer, and provide training in the plant’s emergency containment and removal procedures, which are to be implemented if there is a chemical spillMaintaining and upholding the workers’ compensation penalty/refund program within the company.Maintain, report, and analyze information relative to workers’ compensation costs.  Use the information to help minimize costs and properly administer the plants’ Penalty and Refund Adjustment program.Perform monthly review of the Plant’s workers’ compensation loss reports with the Workers Comp.  Review discrepancies with the Plant’s workers’ compensation claims administrator.Compute and recommend prudent changes in the dollar amount of reserves on workers’ compensation claims and estimated penalty/refund amounts.Monitoring and sustaining the safety action plan.Recommend specific, annual safety objectives for the plant.Design and implement the plants safety motivational program for the recognition of exceptional safety performance.Maintain and report monthly statistics pertaining to the Plant’s safety record and the Corporate Safety Contest.Preserving the fire prevention plan and policy.Coordinate the establishment, maintenance, and training of the Plant’s fire brigades.Prepare a Plant evacuation and plan and train employees how to use the plan during an emergency.Train employees in general fire dangers specific to a foam plant, in fire safety procedures, and in the use of safety equipment.Maintain an open channel of communication with local fire department personnel.Communicates with Workers Compensation Claims Administration and coordinates information accordingly.Communicate with and assist the plant’s Workers’ Compensation servicing agent in the administration of workers’ compensation claims.Maintain communication with the company physician.  Schedule physical examinations and coordinate medical reports for alleged work-related illnesses or injuries.Coordinate the processing and payment of all indemnity/lost-time claims under workers’ compensation.Maintains contact with all employees absent from work with job-related conditions.Identify and offer favored work as appropriate so that workers’ compensation disabilities do not extend further than is absolutely necessary.Act as a first responder in the case of an injury or chemical spillOther duties as neededComplete all required and applicable training required by Adient and its customers

Education / Experience / Skills

High School Education or Equivalent (GED)College degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or related specialty.Three to five years in industrial safety.  Industrial health care experience is preferred.

Accountabilities

This position reports directly to the Plant Manager who is responsible for their department.

Qualifications

Previous experience working in Environmental, Safety or Health in a manufacturing environment

Must be able to meet the requirements of being able to work in the United States (INS Form I-9).
