HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER

Organisation Information:

Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O'Rourke, two of Europe's most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion.

Bylor are pushing the boundaries of innovation and modern technology while delivering high quality construction on a massive scale. Bylor have already broken the UK record for the largest continuous concrete pour of 9,000m3 of concrete.

Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities:

  Project Management - COMPETENT

Demonstrates the ability to coach and support the Project Management function in order to deliver the HSE project requirements. Supports and advises projects to ensure HSE constraints and requirements are recognised and included in project plans and programmes.

Commercial - ADVANCED

Engages the supply chain in implementing project HSE requirements. Works with the Procurement Team to continually improve the procurement processes to ensure achievement of HSE best practice and performance.

Client and Stakeholder Management – ADVANCED

Proposes actions in response to changes in client and stakeholder needs and expectations.

Professionally networks within and beyond BYLOR and is able to draw on these contacts in support of their role.

Proactively reaches out to understand the client context, needs and requirements; is aware of the current market and competition and uses this to shape the delivery of outcomes.

Develops trust through building shared agendas with others and is able to use these as a basis to anticipate and resolve potential conflict.

Initiates identified and valuable business relationships and works to ensure they are developed effectively over time.

Has a detailed knowledge of BYLOR's integrated delivery model of innovation, digital engineering, and DfMA processes we use, including systems and control measures and the contributions this provides to the Group Strategic Roadmap (GSR).

People Management - ADVANCED

Provides coaching and development input to others to enable performance and capability development.

Proactively ensures own and other peoples objectives / activities are aligned between BYLOR, parent companies and individual activities / objectives.

Works closely with the team in order to increase their levels of motivation and engagement.

Effectively tailors communications to local audiences and can articulate complex ideas and facts into a simple structure in most situations.

Leads from the front; is an advocate and champion for the right things (Health & Safety).

Sets the direction and communicates standards; instils rigour, discipline and a sense of ownership.

Is close enough to a project to demonstrate control and understanding

Knows what questions to ask, not what answers to give. Shows both empathy and toughness, conveying strong messages without being adversarial; be brutally honest without blaming others.

Makes the most of technology to communicate frequently, while at the same time recognising the value in face-to-face conversation and consciously investing time for it.

Technical Knowledge:

Setting Standards & Ensuring Compliance - EXPERT

Researches and understands the holistic and global challenges, develops best practices to shape and set standards from other leading industries for BYLOR globally.

Audit & Inspection - EXPERT

Schedules and leads the high level business assurance programme, produces the report and works with the appropriate teams to ensure recommendations are implemented.

Ensures close out of recommendations across the business.

Accident & Incident Investigation & Reporting - EXPERT

Leads accident or incident investigations and ensures comprehensive reports are entered onto IMPACT Plus + to enable appropriate actions to be taken to prevent recurrence.

Statistical Reporting & Analysis – EXPERT

Builds upon existing platforms for statistical analysis and reporting to ensure the business risks and opportunities are incorporated into current and future arrangements.

Identifies the significance of business data and evaluates to make informed decisions.

Coaching, Facilitating and Training– ADVANCED

Develops and delivers specialist training programmes to address audience and business needs. Champions the participation of business improvement interventions.

These also apply to Health, Safety and Environment Leader.

 

Key Skills & Competencies

Able to ensure adequate resource levels are recruited and employed. Has experience at managing geographical resource and / or dedicated functional support. Understands how to manage people and put them to work, ensuring development plans are constantly reviewed and updated. Implements and communicates HSE strategy within area of responsibility. Builds solid relationships with stakeholders and can deliver on customer strategic and tactical requirements. Feeds into best practice and continual improvement programmes to improve methods of working and HSE performance. Prepares accurate HSE reports and communicates these to key stakeholders.

·       Provides assistance in incident and accident investigations

 

Additional Information:

All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O'Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, private medical insurance, company pension schemes and annual holiday allowance. Some grades will also include a company car allowance.

 

Unless stated otherwise all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.

Somerset boasts beautiful English countryside, an attractive coastline, interesting towns and villages along with easy access to the M5 and within proximity to the cities of Bristol and Exeter.
