What you will be doing
The Manager, Human Resources is an HR Business Partner that serves as an expert consultant to business leaders and their teams on all talent matters, including associate (employee) relations, Diversity-Equity-Inclusion-Belonging (DEIB), organizational and leader effectiveness, change management, organizational design and learning needs/opportunities. In this role, you facilitate HR programs and strategies to support the needs of assigned business areas through collaboration with clients and local/national HR partners. You also work to promote and enable a fair and inclusive workplace that safeguards the company’s employment brand by ensuring that associate and company interests are managed in a fair and consistent manner. You prioritize shaping the associate experience, ensuring our associates and leaders grow personally and professionally.
The Manager, Human Resources will report to the Director, Human Resources and will be based in Bowie, MD. There is some flexibility in location in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia.
Main responsibilities
Proactively assesses business and organizational performance to recommend and drive action through a consultative influence without authority approach. Implement and coach business leaders on HR initiatives and policies, including talent planning, learning and development, employee inclusion and engagement, performance management, compensation planning, and rewards/recognition. Drive a lifecycle approach to talent management focused on forecasting, staffing, onboarding, development, performance management, succession planning, talent movement, and retention, using people analytics and insights. Establish and maintain an intimate understanding of your clients' organizations and the business, in the interest of building effective and productive working relationships at all levels of the organization. Conduct timely, objective, and thorough internal investigations including but not limited to allegations of harassment, discrimination, accommodation, and retaliation, and prepare all required documentation. Maintain detailed and accurate accounts of investigations with timely memorialization of the notes and supporting documents resulting in recommendations to division counsel and senior leadership for appropriate resolution. Respond to leaders and employees with a sense of urgency and appropriate follow-through. Help drive Inclusion and Belonging and encourage associates to embrace a culture and environment of inclusion, creativity, and respect. Analyze and interpret various types of associate reports (e.g., demographics, attrition, survey) to guide decision-making and provide solutions to meet the changing needs of the business and workforce. Apply analytical skills to collect and synthesize data, tell the story, and formulate recommendations based on data trends and insights. Strategize and drive organizational development initiatives to ensure that the design, capabilities, processes, and culture of the organization deliver the business strategy. Develop and implement appropriate change management plans. Partner with internal communications to create and amplify programs and celebrations via internal social media vehicles. Assist with projects and additional assignments as necessary aimed at enhancing HR processes and employee experience.

Self-starter who can deliver results in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines. Strong project/time management skills with proven success leading and managing multiple projects end to end. Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Familiarity with data collection methods, both quantitative and qualitative. We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
5+ years of progressively responsible experience as an HR Business Partner, within an HR function, handling investigations and/or in a consultative type of role. Demonstrated experience influencing executives (e.g., VP/Director). BA/BS in Business, HR, or related field and/or combination equivalent work experience. MBA or Masters in HR or related field a plus. Keen understanding of HR policies, programs, and HR systems. Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws pertaining to the employment relationship. Experience working in and/or supporting operational, retail and union environments a plus.
