Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our Manufacturing Human Resources team. The Human Resources Assistant at McKee Foods plays a vital role in supporting the HR department by assisting with various administrative and operational tasks. This position helps manage employee records, facilitates in corrective action processes, assists with onboarding and termination procedures, and supports employee relations initiatives. The HR Assistant will handle sensitive and confidential information, ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements, and contribute to the efficient functioning of the HR team. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential in this fast-paced role.

Answering phone calls and responding to emails inside and outside of the companyAnswering employee and applicant HR related questionsCoordinating interviews, communicating with candidates and creating interview packetsEntering various information in Workday (HR information system)Extracting information from HR information systems through inquiries and running reportsAttending various meetings and taking notes (preferably on laptop), often on serious and highly confidential mattersInitiating background checks for new hiresCompleting online I9 verifications Scheduling drug screens, post-offer medical evaluations and orientationProcessing new hire paperworkCreating check requestsReviewing performance evaluationsCoordinating lunch for tours and other eventsProviding support to HR Shared Services which may include:Approving internal job applicationsProviding employment verificationsProviding new hire announcement informationPurchase needed office supplies/ event items and reconcile expense report when purchases are madeOther duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

1-2 years of college (>31 semester hours) with 1 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (2 years of experience = 1 year of education)Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently, including effective follow-up and prioritizationAbility to maintain strict confidentialityAdvanced technical writing skills, business grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with the ability to proofread and editStrong customer service focusInterpersonal skills that promote teamwork, cooperation, and relationship buildingAbility to work effectively and productively with minimal supervisionHigh level of initiativeProven ability to apply independent judgment and complex problem solving skillsAbility to work under pressure with frequent interruptions while maintaining a professional attitudeProficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook (searching, calendar functions, etc.)Ability to organize office processes, business information, and schedulesDependable with excellent attendanceMust have experience taking minutes for meetings, business conversations, investigations, and related functions

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Business Management, Human Resources or related fieldExperience with Workday or other HR SystemsFamiliarity with basic employment lawExperience as a Paralegal/ Legal AssistantAbility to type a minimum of 50 words per minute
