Human Resources Business Partner - ASL Distribution

The Human Resources Business Partner plays a key role in supporting multiple areas of the HR function including employee relations, recruitment and selection and training and development.

The Human Resources Business Partner takes on other HR related assignments and special projects as required to support the team and grow and develop as an HR professional.

Key Accountabilities:
Business AdvisorProvides sound technical knowledge of human resources disciplines including employee relations, employment legislation, group benefits, disability management and performance management.Consults with managers to ensure human resources best practices are aligned with Company’s goals and visions; provides guidance to managers on human resources functions, issues, and projects. StaffingExecutes all aspects of the internal and external recruitment process for all business groups, locations and divisions.Develops candidate-sourcing strategies, prepares job postings, advertises open roles, screens resumes, conducts behavioural-based interviews, completes reference and background checks and makes hiring recommendations.Prepares employment contracts and secures required approvals; prepares offer letter packages.Maintains an active and organized data bank of candidates for various positions (via JazzHR, our Applicant Tracking System).Effectively develops and communicates the organization’s brand through all recruitment documentation to ensure the attraction of a high performing workforce.Training & DevelopmentFacilitate Orientation & Onboarding presentations for new employees as required.Assists with creating, managing and facilitating employee training.Update employee training records when courses are completeEnsure course evaluations are completed and information updated in spreadsheets Maintain and make administrative changes to position descriptions as needed.Participate in various transportation-related committees and organizations, staying updated on industry trends.Explore and leverage government wage subsidy programs to support ASL employees and enhance workforce development.Performance Management & Employee RelationsProvides direction to management on the progressive disciplinary process, including the preparation of documentation; conducts workplace investigations and proposes recommend settlements (e.g. appropriate disciplinary measures up to and including terminations).Coaches and consults with managers throughout the performance management process.Partners with business groups to facilitate SMART goals and performance review processes.Partners with Human Resources Manager to analyze and calibrate mid-year and year-end performance review forms to ensure employees are appropriately rated throughout the organization.Administers progressive disciplinary action for selected business groups by participating in disciplinary and termination meetings in accordance with established procedures.Conducts Exit Interviews with departing office and maintenance employees; tracks results to analyze trends and provide recommendations to improve non-driver turnover.Reporting & AnalysisGathers and analyzes employee data to complete reporting as required for ongoing company compliance, including Employer One Survey and Statistics Canada Survey.Manages business group’s annual Employment Equity submission.Analyzes non-driver and driver data, which includes annualizing salaries, identifying NOC and NAICS codes and identifying employees in each designated group.Submits detailed employee, promotion and termination reports and completes variance analysis.Completes the narrative report to comment on any variances from prior submissions and outlines the future strategy to remove barriers for the four designated groups.Manages business group’s annual Pay Equity submission.Administrative DutiesCollaborate with the ASL Payroll department to ensure accurate benefits and RRSP deductions.Generate ASL ROEs and assist with payroll processing.Partners with Benefits & Disability Management Specialist regarding benefit plan, disability or other leaves of absences.Prepare appropriate letters and documents as requested by employees and/or managers. Update employment manual and policies as required.Other DutiesProvides support to the team on human resources functions, issues and projects.Performs other duties as required.What You Need To Be Successful In This Role: Post-secondary degree or diploma in HR, Business Administration or a related field.Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years human resources generalist experience in various areas of HR including employee relations, recruitment and selection, HR administration and benefits administration.Intermediate user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).Strong presentation skills with experience in facilitation.Experience in the transportation industry considered to be an asset.Ability to build systems and processes that create efficient and effective HR practices.Detail and deadline oriented, with the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment.Ability to act with maturity and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.Strong verbal communication skills, relationship building and interpersonal skills.Proactive attitude; takes initiative to prevent issues and has a bias towards action.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and independently with individuals at various levels is required.A continuous improvement focus on work.Well-organized, enthusiastic, professional and a positive team member.
