The HR Generalist plays a vital role in supporting restaurant management and staff while upholding the company’s culture. This unique onsite role ensures the Generalist is available and accessible to both management and staff, facilitating efficient HR functions. The Generalist will manage, support, and coordinate various operational and HR responsibilities, including oversight and review of manager and staff scheduling, effective onboarding, Ops training schedules and certifications, compliance programs, timely performance reviews, and staff engagement efforts. Additionally, the role involves handling HR-related tasks such as wage analysis, staff relations investigations, rollout of HR programs, oversee specific HR training as required, various HR audits, and interpreting and applying company policies and procedures while providing guidance to management on disciplinary actions. Champion of Growth – Overseeing the first 60 days of new hires, you will work with Operations to craft training schedules and cross-training certifications that empower employees to excel and grow within the company. Compliance Guru – Conducting audits and ensuring adherence to training programs and labor laws, you mitigate risks and uphold the highest standards of compliance. Culture Advocate – Promoting and reinforcing the company's culture, values, and ethical standards in all interactions, you serve as a cultural ambassador, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. Problem-Solver Extraordinaire – Handling investigations, employee relations, and benefits issues with tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment, you navigate complex situations to achieve fair and effective resolutions. Here’s more of what you’ll get to do: Operations: Oversee the first 60 days of new hires, including training schedules and cross-training certifications. Partner with various cross-functional departments to support development of initiatives. Facilitate manager development and professional development plans (PDP). Conduct audits and ensure compliance with training programs. Organize and manage recognition programs, events, and outings. Participate in the Safety Committee. Partner with Senior Operators on performance reviews and salary increases. Employee scheduling oversight. Human Resources: Perform wage analysis and ensure compliance with HR policies and posters. Provide HR training. Lead employee engagement efforts. Create, review, and ensure consistency in corrective actions (C&C). Manage work restrictions and the interactive process. Resolve benefits issues and educate staff on benefits enrollment. Oversee I-9 and E-Verify processes, and handle unemployment insurance (UI) claims. Conduct HR audits and reporting, working closely with the Director of Operations. Staff Relations/Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations into staff complaints. Document findings and propose appropriate actions based on investigation outcomes. Ensure investigations are conducted confidentially, fairly, and in full compliance with company policies and legal requirements. Manage all investigative cases effectively using Ethics Point or similar case management tools. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to and compliance with all relevant labor laws, regulations, and internal policies. Identify and mitigate risks related to employee relations functions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all employee relations functions. Upholding the Culture: Promote and reinforce the company's culture, values, and ethical standards in all interactions. Support initiatives that promote employee engagement, diversity, inclusion, and a positive work environment. Serve as a cultural ambassador, integrating company values into daily operations and decision-making processes. What we require: BA or BS degree preferred, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience in Human Resources/Employee Relations/Investigations with a strong understanding of best practices. Must be bi-lingual (English/Spanish). Knowledge of state and federal laws governing HR practices, ensuring compliance in all activities. Strong problem-solving skills: ability to analyze issues, propose solutions, and implement effective resolutions. Effective communication skills: ability to influence without authority and communicate effectively across levels and departments. Proven track record in handling varied projects effectively, demonstrating strong project management and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to utilize technology for efficient documentation and communication. Self-motivated and well-organized, capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. Ability to resolve complex situations with sound judgment and critical thinking. High level of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and empathy to cultivate our value, “People Our Greatest Resource.” Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficient report writing capabilities. Collaborative team player, contributing effectively to group projects and initiatives. Ability to work on-site and across multiple shifts. What we prefer: PHR/SPHR certification preferred, demonstrating advanced knowledge and commitment to HR best practices. Experience in HR within the restaurant/retail/hospitality industry, providing valuable insight into specific industry challenges and dynamics.
