Position Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist provides support with day-to-day HR functions and initiatives, including employee relations, performance management, policy administration, and HR project implementation. The HR Generalist will have a strong focus on Employee Relations, playing a key role in fostering a positive and productive work environment by managing employee relations issues and ensuring compliance with Institute policies and labor laws. In addition, the HR Generalist will assist with onboarding, performance management, and other general HR functions, ensuring that all efforts align with the Institute’s objectives and values.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; and performance management. Addresses employee grievances and complaints. Acts as a point of contact for employees, providing guidance on HR policies and general inquiries. Mediates and facilitates conversations between employees and managers to resolve interpersonal issues. Investigates complaints and recommends appropriate actions, ensuring fairness and adherence to Institute policies. Organizes and participates in regular meetings to discuss employee concerns, feedback, and suggestions. Conducts exit interviews and analyzes employee turnover trends and works with HR leadership to develop strategies for improvement. Ensures Institute policies and procedures related to employee behavior, discipline, and conflict resolution are adhered to. Maintains accurate records of employee relations cases, including investigations, outcomes, and follow-up actions. Conducts surveys or interviews to assess employee morale, gathers feedback, and identifies potential areas for improvement. Assists in administering performance review processes, including gathering feedback, tracking progress, and maintaining records. Supports managers in setting clear performance goals and addressing underperformance. Assists in maintaining and updating employee handbooks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements. Collaborates with the HR team to implement HR best practices and support the Institute's strategic objectives. Assists with the coordination of HR events and activities, such as employee recognition initiatives. Develops programs that promote employee engagement and satisfaction. Promotes a positive work environment by fostering transparency and trust. Performs other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or directed.Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field Experience: 3+ years of experience in human resources, ideally in a generalist capacity, with experience in a non-profit research environment preferred. Certifications, Licenses, etc.: HR certification as SHRM-CP or PHR preferredKnowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations. Strong time management skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook). Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS (experience with ADP is a plus)Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct: None
Indirect: May oversee the scheduling and assignments of subordinate staff in the department.
Compensation:
The expected hiring range for this position is $71,784.00 to $100,000 commensurate with relevant skills and experience.
