Human Resources Manager

Job Responsibilities

The primary role of the Human Resources Manager is to lead and oversee the daily operations of a designated market and HR team with the goal of supporting the business’s continued growth and development while striving to exceed our client and associate expectations and experience. Demonstrates a passion for people and dedication to growing the careers of the team to sustain long-term leadership needs of the organization and promote retention. The HR Manager reports directly to the VP of Human Resources and indirectly to the Market President.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Administer and processing Associate leave (FMLA, LOA). Coordinates with Corporate Shared Services Center to support benefits administration, including execution of the open enrollment process, daily administration, and Associate communication. Supports and as needed participates in the selection and hiring of talent within local market. Ensures legal compliance and timely response with all employment-related federal, state, and local government laws. Delivers training and development sessions for HR related topics Oversees the management of Associate relations and grievance issues including investigation, documentation, and resolution. Partner with the VP of HR and other HR leaders to establish HR best practices and regional alignment. Establish HR policies and procedures to ensure the SOPs are tailored to market needs. Develop and implement strategies that promote the organization’s mission, core values and global service standards. Use Culture Shaping principals to lead self and team effectively. In a growing and evolving culture of change, be an initiator and champion of change and lead team through change management. Build strong relationships of trust with internal (i.e., peers and on-site/support teams) and external (i.e., developers and board of directors) clients. Able to manage up and build trust with market leadership by demonstrating authentic desire to grow the organization and provide leadership feedback to supervisor. Create and manage profit and loss statement, budget, including approving expenditures for all areas of responsibility. Provide year-end input to corporate budget, in particular, to those line items within area of responsibility. Analyze business metrics throughout the year to drive performance of self and teams as well as shift priorities and adjust practices as needed in support of overall goals. Commits to attending, and leading in certain circumstances, all designated company meetings and events within areas of responsibility; including supervisor meetings, team meetings, client meetings and others that may arise from time to time. Maintains a positive, collaborative, and cohesive work environment to attract and retain top-level leaders and associates throughout the organization. Build a high functioning team of leaders and associates through performance management, coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and leading by example. Ability to clearly communicate, motivate and inspire others to reach company vision. Provide information, knowledge and methods that translate vision into reality. Promote the use of and utilize all company resources to maintain pulse on associate experience. Provide new thoughts and ideas on how to respond when results are less than ideal. Create environment that continuously enhances the associate experience and drives retention. Maintain working knowledge of company Human Resource policies, programs and initiatives. Partner with other departments on all associate relations issues to ensure operational integrity and client service levels are maintained. Build and support the organizational culture that drives passion for continuous improvement and development throughout the company. Successful navigation between staying curious, enjoying the process of evaluating options and ideas, yet knows when to pivot to a decision/action. Other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

Practice and adhere to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards. Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct. Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies. May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines. Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work. Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management. Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

Manage 1-2 direct reports that ensure market daily operations adhere to company policies, best-practices and delivers a high level of client and associate satisfaction.  Direct reports could include, but are not limited to: HR Generalist, HR Coordinator and other positions as deemed appropriate.

 

Education & Experience

Must possess bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S) in HR Management or related field; or equivalent industry experience. Industry designation strongly preferred; PHR, SPHR, etc. 5+ years of general and progressive HR experience, including all aspects of HR 5+ years of proven leadership skills and ability to lead team at a local level. Experience working in multi-unit/division environment (450+ associates)

Demonstrates awareness of variables which could affect associate retention and/or morale; for both clients and associates. Demonstrates reliability and dependability to support daily operations, company meetings, client meetings and/or other activities. Demonstrated ability to train, develop and educate associates. Demonstrated ability to report, interpret and provide recommendations based upon key HR and business metrics. Strong working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local HR and Employment Laws (i.e. FMLA, FLSA, ADA, etc.) Demonstrates ability to work through and solve complex work situations, including conflict, and other events in a timely manner. Demonstrates ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, regulations or documents with a similar degree of complexity. Proficient in daily use and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher. Proficiency in other HR systems such as, but not limited to ADP, Qualtrics, etc.

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Ability to lift, push and move equipment and furniture. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to communicate both on the phone and in person in order to resolve issues related to the business. Must have finger dexterity for typing/using a keyboard. Must be mobile enough to move around the office and during outside events; including walking on uneven surfaces and standing for long periods of time. Ability to work with inside and outside environmental elements (noise, weather, etc.). Ability to respond to emergencies in a timely manner as this is a 365/24/7 business Ability to work extended/flexible hours and weekends Regular and predictable attendance

Travel

Travel time of up to 30% in designated market.  Occasional overnight travel may be required
