The Evergreen Packaging Athens Carton Converting Facility is located in Athens, Georgia, which is also home to the University of Georgia and is approximately an hour from the city of Atlanta and its cosmopolitan amenities. Opened in 1951 and employing 163 team members, the facility ships over two billion gable top cartons annually. Athens prints and die cuts refrigerated gable top cartons for a variety of global brands found in retail groceries throughout the US.

ResponsibilitiesPurpose of the job: Support plant management. Serve as primary resource in all HR Policy/Administration matters. Manage the functions of performance management, communications, training/organizational development, salaried and hourly recruiting, absentee control, benefits administration, Workers’ Compensation and EEO/affirmative action. Support union/management relationships and workplace culture. Perform other Human Resource duties as required.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Labor Relations – Develop and maintain a union/management relationship of trust promoting candor and problem solving to assure open and accurate communication of business and organizational information.
Administer the interpretation of the labor agreement, monitor and participate in grievance handling and participate in union /management meetings.
Provide guidance and support in the day to day interpretation and application of labor agreement.
Advise line management of appropriate disciplinary measures and ensure that disciplinary action is administrated consistently.
Serve as member of company negotiation team. Collect and analyze information pertinent to the preparation of contract negotiations and make recommendations on contact issues.
Assist in the preparation of arbitration hearings.
2. Compensation/Performance Management – Prepare and submit the required personnel requisitions and initiate and prepare Employee Action Forms in accordance with company policy. Ensure timely and accurate input into the personnel/payroll system.
Provide leadership and guidance in performance management and ensure performance management activities support the location’s goals and objectives.
3. Communication/Training – Assist in the coordination of plant training and development activities to ensure required objectives and anticipated outcomes are met.
4. Benefits – Administer all benefit plans including medical, dental, life insurance, disability, workers compensation, retirement, unemployment compensation, employee assistance, educational assistance and service awards. Ensure compliance with Evergreen’s benefit policies, programs and procedures.
5. Human Resources Planning/recruitment – Manage the recruiting, interviewing and hiring efforts for the salaried and hourly workforce ensuring that all selection processes result in the most qualified applicants being hired while maintaining all EEO/AAP requirements. Manage hourly job bidding and line of progression promotions to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
6. Workers’ Compensation – Ensure and maintain compliance with all local, state and federal agencies, including OSG+HA record keeping, regulations, accident reporting and investigation and training records.
7. Affirmative Action – Act as EEO Coordinator handling EEO issues as well as formulating and preparing the annual Affirmative Action Plan. Responsible for EEO reporting to Corporate.
8. Miscellaneous – Manage the efforts of the absentee control program to ensure that the process is administrated consistently.
Monitor all personnel, employment and labor programs to ensure that they are administrated in compliance with applicable local, state and federal law (i.e. ADA, FMLA, etc.).
Responsible for maintaining and ensuring that facility is in compliance with Corporate Record Retention Program.
Ensure that all requirements of SQF Code are being administered and adhered to.
