PurposeThe Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVPP) seeks a Human Resources Manager to guide our HR support team, ensuring compliance and efficiency for units in the portfolio. This role will manage critical HR processes such as employee lifecycle events, serve as final reviewer of business processes/HR actions, and act as a subject matter expert. The HR Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, collaborate across functions to enhance HR services, and provide training to support staff. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, adaptable leader with strong problem-solving and communication skills, able to inspire a long-standing team and manage complex processes to drive consistent, high-quality HR operations.
ResponsibilitiesFunction 1: HR Transactions and Unit SupportServe as HR Executive and final reviewer for HR business processes for various units in the EVPP portfolio ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and university laws and policies. Assess employee life-cycle events such as reclassifications, new position requests, compensation changes, and more. Act as the subject matter expert and provide training and guidance to relevant stakeholders on these HR matters. As assigned, address employee relations matters including counseling supervisors on employee issues and collaborating with central offices.Function 2: Manage HR Team
Hire, train, develop, and supervise a team of HR support staff, encouraging continuous professional growth through ongoing training and skill development opportunities. Establish clear performance metrics to ensure service and quality level expectations are met. Providing regular feedback for improvement. Foster collaboration and ensure consistency across all constituents. Function 3: HR Operations and Improvement Coordination
Actively contribute to driving innovation and continuous improvement within HR processes. Proactively gather feedback from key stakeholders to identify areas for enhancing the HR function. Collaborate with cross-functional HR teams to ensure the seamless and timely delivery of services to stakeholders. Assist with special projects and participate in working groups as assigned. Serve as backup for unit-level HR contacts and team ensuring timely processing of HR actions.Function 4: Other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.At least five years of experience in human resources or a related field including compliance, employee life-cycle management with process review, and three years of experience as a lead, supervisor, or manager.At least five years of supervisory and training in management.Strong leadership abilities with the capability to inspire, motivate, and engage staff.Proven experience with conflict resolution and managing difficult conversations in a professional setting.Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to ask insightful probing questions to fully understand the context behind each action or decision.Exceptional attention to detail including proven ability to create/assess written documentation ensuring content is complete and clear.Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide feedback constructively and foster open, two-way communication. Ability to adapt to varying unit-level processes and procedures to provide consistent guidance across different teams.Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.Strong understanding of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations.Ability to work independently and manage multiple processes and tasks simultaneously, managing competing priorities in a timely and efficient manner.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in an academic environment including knowledge of the full HR lifecycle for faculty, staff and student employees. Experience in a dean or vice president-level office.Experience with Workday. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certificationSalary Range$75,000 + depending on qualifications
