Human Resources Specialist
The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury is seeking a Human Resources Specialist within the Division of Management Services to perform human resources operations and technical responsibilities providing comprehensive support across all HR functions such employee relations, recruitment, benefits administration, leave management, compliance and policies within assigned divisions. This position combines strategic initiatives and operational efficiency to enhance the employee experience, align divisional goals, optimize processes, support employees and leadership, and contribute to our Office’s Top Workplace culture. The HR team is collaborative, adapts to changing needs and supports each other to encourage balanced demands and bandwidth.
Key responsibilities will include:
+ Assisting in identifying candidates for vacant positions, including assessing job postings, employee referrals, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews and attending campus recruiting events.
+ Providing coaching, guidance and recommendations to address performance and behavior concerns, interpersonal conflicts, policy violations, disciplinary actions and performance issues.
+ Drafting and preparing correcting action documents such as written warnings and performance improvement plans.
+ Examining and reviewing bi-monthly payroll records for accuracy and resolving any errors or discrepancies.
+ Calculating and processing payroll payments outside of the normal system-generated payroll cycle.
+ Assisting employees with medical leaves of absence, including the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and paternity leave.
+ Assisting employees and managers with disability accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
+ Discussing retirement options, explaining payroll deductions and calculations, or reviewing benefits elections with individual employees.
+ Researching issues that arise and finding and communicating the resolution.
+ Professionally representing the Comptroller’s Office and communicating clearly with internal employees and external contacts.
+ Drafting and interpreting policies and procedures.
+ Assisting with other Human Resources responsibilities as necessary.
Candidate
Successful candidates will show innovation, self-awareness, personal responsibility to get results, and quick adaptation to changing priorities while maintaining high accuracy and confidentiality. Analytical and critical thinking skills will be very important in this role.

+ A minimum of two years of experience in Human Resources.
+ Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in human resources or experience or education relevant for substitution.
+ A SHRM or HRCI certification is preferred.
