Job Description
Purpose:
The Human Resources Specialist II is a member of the Texas A&M Engineering HR & Payroll team and is responsible for leave administration, Texas A&M Engineering’s employee wellness program, and oversight of alternate work location requests.
Responsibilities:
Leave Administration (50%):
+ Serve as central point of contact and subject matter expert on the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Provide consultations with employees who may be eligible, address inquiries related to FMLA and ensure effective communication with supervisors and Absence Partners regarding FMLA timelines and processes. Provide training to employees, managers, and Absence Partners on FMLA requirements and procedures.
+ Oversee the administration of the Sick and Family Leave Pool including processing requests for donations and withdrawals, determining eligibility for leave pool hours, maintaining appropriate documentation, and tracking leave pool balances. Communicate SLP/FLP requirements and procedures to employees and Absence Partners.
+ Answer customer questions related to employee absences and various types of paid and unpaid leave. Hold Absence Partner role to assist with researching and resolving leave-related issues.
+ Review and obtain approvals for Administrative Leave with Pay requests and enter administrative leave hours in Workday.
+ Stay informed of federal, state, and system leave policies. Communicate changes in policy to employees and Absence Partners as needed. Conduct regular leave audits and generate reports to ensure compliance with policies and timely processing of leave requests. Collaborate with benefits and payroll teams to address the impacts of leave on these areas.
+ Evaluate and streamline current leave administration processes, implement best practices, and develop targeted training sessions to drive ongoing improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
+ Provide training on leave policy and reporting requirements to individuals holding the Workday Absence Partner role.
+ Update employee leave records as needed after previous state service verifications are completed.
+ Serve on the Workday Time and Absence working group.
+ Collaborates with the benefits and employee relations specialists to ensure successful coordination between leave, benefits, AWL, and ADA.
Wellness (25%):
+ Oversee the Engineer Your Wellness (E-Well) program. Coordinate with vendors to provide a variety of wellness activities for Engineering employees throughout the year, monitoring program costs and metrics.
+ Manage logistics for wellness activities.
+ Prepare annual wellness grant proposal.
Alternate Work Locations and Flexible Work Arrangements (15%):
+ Review, approve, and monitor full and partial Alternate Work Location (AWL) requests to ensure compliance with policies.
+ Serve as subject matter expert on AWL, providing guidance on policies, eligibility, and procedures. Address issues and provide solutions.
+ Run reports to track and maintain AWL and flexible work arrangement records. Oversee annual AWL renewal process.
Other (10%):
+ Assess and audit HR/Payroll processes and recommend efficiencies and improvements.
+ Serve as backup on Worker’s Compensation claims
+ Assist employees and retirees with SSO password reset.
+ Assists with providing benefits support as needed.
+ Provide excellent customer service.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
What we need:
+ Bachelor’s Degree. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
+ Two years of related experience.
