Together, we’re shaping a healthier future through compassion, innovation, and opportunity. **Job Summary** We are seeking a **Husbandry Lead Technician** to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located at Boston's Children's Hospital.  You will be working with multiple animal species. _This is a full-time opportunity, Monday-Friday with some weekends, holidays, and evenings._ The **Husbandry Lead Technician** will provide guidance and oversight of the animal care technicians in the day-to-day operations of Boston Children's Hospital animal facilities. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Assist in overseeing the day-to-day animal care operations and providing guidance to animal care technicians, ensuring the proper husbandry practices are followed. + Provide input to supervisor/senior supervisor regarding animal care technician's work performance, strengths/ weaknesses. + Assist in coordinating animal care technicians work assignments in scheduling with a primary focus on planning, organizing and distributing work among team members. + Coordinate and assist in ensuring that adequate supplies are in barrier, animal holding rooms and other areas as specified. + Provide support in animal rooms changing cages, and work in cage wash operation as needed. + Ensure proper maintenance of animal records including, room logs, health reports, cage card labels, animal census and other records as required. Oversee record maintenance including quality assurance records, machine maintenance logs, room logbooks, machine repair logs. Report to management with issues related to staff, equipment, facility, or the operation. + Ensure that all animal rooms are observed daily to monitor for sick, impaired or dead animals, and reports findings to the veterinary staff or alternatively to the husbandry supervisor or senior supervisor. + Collaborate with the veterinary staff to ensure that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines and regulations. + Maintain quality performance of departmental and client objectives - including meeting/exceeding departmental standards with respect to animal health and welfare, facilities condition, sanitation levels. + Conduct routine inspections of all animal holding and support facilities to ensure established levels are met for: animal health, facilities condition, sanitation levels, environmental parameters and security. + Coordinate repair and general up-keep of physical environment in areas of responsibility. + Interact with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance. Serve as a liaison between research staff and support personnel. + Provide input to supervisor/senior supervisor regarding animal care technician's work performance, strengths/ weaknesses, and weekly work schedules. + Assist with the training program for the animal care technicians, such as, animal husbandry, facility sanitization, quality assurance, cage wash operations, and machine operation and maintenance. + Serve as a role model for effective time management, communication and utilization of resources + Ensure accurate, high-quality work, and adherence to pertinent departmental policies, practices and procedures (SOPs, department policies and procedures, safety procedures). + Responsible for providing back up, and assistance for the Animal Facility Supervisor. + Perform all other related duties as assigned. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** + High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). + Two (2) to four (4) years husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility. + _An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above._ + Minimum of six (6) months of supervisory or leadership experience of QC auditing and overseeing the day-to-day activities in an animal laboratory facility. + Exceptional customer service skills as you will be working with faculty, research personnel and the ARCH Client staff. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Proof of current vaccinations for both COVID-19 and Influenza. + Proficient in computers (IE: MS Office suite). **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:** * The ability to successfully achieve AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) or higher within 1 year. * Database & record keeping of laboratory animal operations. **_The pay range for this position is $35.00 to $37.00 USD per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. _** **About Insourcing Solutions** Charles River Insourcing Solutions℠ can streamline research by delivering operational and cost efficiencies through the strategic insourcing of GMP, GLP and non-GLP research services from discovery through safety assessment.
