We are seeking an entry-level HVAC Electrical System/Control Design Engineer to join our Farmington Hills, MI, team.

In this position, you will operate with high independence while being an integral part of a team in the assigned area. Your responsibilities include understanding and defining Nissan requirements, resolving technical issues by coordinating with cross-functional department teams, and planning and leading engineering design reviews to develop and analyze automotive HVAC systems.

A Day in the Life:

Lead Nissan global team and supplier (USA/China/Japan/Mexico/Brazil) to manage development projects and deliverables. Review/release Nissan internal specifications, requirements, and standards for HVAC amp and controllers (hardware and software). Support and report on Vehicle Program Management milestones and deliverables. Must communicate clearly in both verbal and written communications to all levels of management.Lead cross-functional Product Development Team consisting of Finance, Purchasing, and Cost Estimating to manage cost savings (Value Optimization) and commodity quotes and budget. Develop logic specifications for climate controllers: HVAC unit control and A/C control display, as well as connected car services and AIVI touch screens. Work with all interfacing electronic control modules to confirm and release system architecture requirements.   Coordinate closely with the HVAC performance group to the calibrate HVAC systems. Support assembly plants on quality, process and manufacturing concerns. Release end of line test and configuration installation procedure to the assembly plant. Make configuration files to be used in manufacturing.HVAC system responsibility. Expert on interface of HVAC electrical functions and configurations all interfacing CAN modules, ex. Body modules, powertrain modules. Plan and participate in Design Reviews for system diagrams, circuit design, circuit board layout, and communication (CAN, LIN) for electrical components within the climate system such as controls, blower motors, blower motor control modules, actuators, and sensors. Responsible to load CAD data from supplier into digital vehicle environment for each project. (Basic NX).Responsible for software coordination with suppliers and Nissan Japan.  Must be organized to make software development timing plans, and track changes and version control. Responsible to know changing software content in detail. Travel to assembly plants, and Nissan Japan to support proto-type and pre-production builds and meetings.  Responsible for supplier management of design, validation of test requirements, and product changes. Travel to supplier for process audits on new programs.

Who We’re Looking For:

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Capable to present to peers and management.  Prior automotive HVAC electronics or other automotive electronic module experience preferred.  Knowledge of CAN, LIN communication, and automotive software preferred. Willingness to learn basic NX, CANalyzer and CANape/CANoe. Capable to learn/perform vehicle troubleshooting with oscilloscope, meter, ability to read electrical schematics. Ability to read and interpret software / MATLAB specifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

1 to 3 years of directly related professional-level engineering experience.

1-2 years in automotive systems or electronic component engineering design or test.

Education:

BS Electrical and/or Computer Engineering

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Up to 15% of domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Overtime:

Willingness to work overtime as necessary to complete the job.
