Overview MasTec Communications is seeking a skilled HVAC / Generator Telecom Technician to join our team. The technician is responsible for performing field service maintenance, remedial, and emergency repair on telecommunication and data centers, relating to HVAC equipment and will also service and repair commercial generators. Responsibilities Maintaining commercial cooling systems on cell tower cooling units – diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, or installing and replacing components of entire systems. Performing additional maintenance or upgrades on out-of-season equipment. Ability to demonstrate competency with installation and diagnostics to ensure the completion of services professional level. Replace or install forced air heating, air conditioning systems. Replace or install complete hydronic heating systems or refrigeration equipment. Install or replace duct systems in telecommunication shelters. Test electrical circuits and components for continuity, using electrical test equipment. Test pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks using a pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution. Layout and connect electrical wiring between the controls and equipment according to the wiring diagram. Troubleshoot low voltage control systems. Understanding of underground gas monitoring, system, (AKA, Sierra 2400, Sierra 2450, Quest control systems). Maintaining generators, diagnosing, and repairing problems, or installing and replacing components or entire systems Performing additional maintenance or upgrades on out of season equipment Conducting performance checks and regular maintenance to ensure proper readiness. Read and follow blueprints or other design specifications to install or repair. Install electrical wiring and controls and test for proper operation. Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, and other components. Connect electrical wiring. Use care to conserve, recover, and recycle the oil or fuel filters and other fluids. Assist in troubleshooting and repair with other Generator Service Technicians Be responsible for responding promptly/timely to Power/Generator alarms; can be on call 24/7 if necessary and respond promptly in answering assigned phone and email. Operate a computer, or similar devices to access required systems and equipment. Work independently with minimum or no supervision. Perform work with the awareness of all potential hazards connected with the installation and maintenance of power supply equipment, switching gear, and other equipment, including but not limited to falls, electric shock, falling objects, and traffic; use safety equipment and utilize safety practices; attend and participate in all designated safety and training meetings. Comply with all specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations, and company policies and procedures. Qualifications Prior experience with underground CEV (Controlled Environment Vault) (preferred). Able to read and understand electrical ladder schematics. Basic plumbing knowledge of sump pumps. Possess strong knowledge of pumps, dry coolers, and cooling towers. Knowledge of HVAC codes and their proper application Universal refrigerant card (include 410a) EPA 608. Types 1, 2, and 3. Understanding of telecommunications and data processing operations. Compliance with FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA Regulations. Two or more years of experience with generator maintenance is preferred and a minimum of one year of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes. Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair of Generators; knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components; familiarity with solar panels, moderate computer skills; basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations. Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and by email. Must have the ability to be on call and travel extensively for work when needed is highly preferred. Extensive daily travel with independent work structure. Able to work solo for long periods of time and with a project team. PC skills with emphasis on Microsoft and internet products. Ability to read and understand general job-related documents. Previous construction and/or construction industry experience (preferred) This position requires lifting over 50 pounds, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and standing for long periods of time; must have an unimpaired hearing, able to communicate orally and via telephone; must be willing and able to drive long distances, workday, evening or night hours; overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as required; must assume 24-hour on-call duty when assigned and be gone from home for extended periods of time.
