HVAC Mechanic II

Under the guidance of the HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Mechanic II performs as a journey level HVAC Mechanic; a fully qualified working-level trade mechanic. This position performs skilled installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation systems. The HVAC Mechanic II is highly knowledgeable and experience with chilled water loop systems utilizing centrifugal chillers, absorption chillers, chilled/condenser water pumps, air handling units and cooling towers. Additionally, they have experience with the operation and repair of air compressors, heat exchangers, hot water boilers, and the building automation system. The HVAC Mechanic II works independently as well as in team environments, and always upholds a high level of service standards and health and safety compliance to ensure they are providing a best in class experience to guests and team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ability to operate, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain all physical plant equipment in compliance with all manufacturer and Department policies and procedures.  Assists in troubleshooting, including basic electrical or instrumentation troubleshooting of equipment that is not performing to standards and makes necessary repairs to get optimum performance from equipment.

2. Notifies appropriate leadership in the event of equipment malfunction, chiller/boiler casualty, or any other unforeseen event that negatively affects operation of plant and/or building systems.  Always operates in compliance with health and safety regulations as well as enterprise and Department policies and procedures. 

3. Performs technical maintenance and repairs of plumbing and piping systems, to include standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing piping systems, and/or performing modifications to plumbing and hydronic systems; assists or directs licensed plumbing/mechanical contractors, as required.

4. Assists in performance of routine, unscheduled, and preventative maintenance and modification jobs on all site utility systems. Ability to use expertise to monitor control panels, panel boards and adjust controls, valves and pumps manually or by remote control to regulate flow, pressure levels and distribution.

5. Records mechanical equipment readings and ensures accuracy of records kept. Responsible for periodic maintenance in Central Plant.

6. Works with vendors regarding maintenance and repair of equipment.

7. Understands and follows all LOTO procedures and can execute LOTO of utility systems and equipment.

8. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

High School Diploma required.

Minimum 3-5 years of journey-level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and industrial equipment for heating, ventilation, cooling (HVAC/chiller/boiler), and package units outside the casino facility.

Without 3-5 years of journey-level experience, eligibility will require 6 years of service as HVAC Mechanic I in Facilities at San Manuel Casino.

Ability to use all necessary tools and equipment required to complete all duties and jobs.

Ability to follow safety guidelines when using required chemicals, equipment, tools, and techniques while performing job duties.

Ability to read specifications, blue prints, etc.

Use computerized maintenance systems.

Knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance. Working knowledge of refrigerants and refrigerant recovery. 

Ability to perform inspections and make necessary adjustments to conform to job specifications.

Ability to work with a flexible schedule that could include nights, weekends, holidays, and on call duties.

Knowledge of low-pressure boilers, chilled water production units, compressors, turbines, generating units and water systems. 

Ability to test boiler and cooling waters to ensure compliance with set standards. 

Ability to test systems and log results and work in elevated locations up to 75 feet. 

Ability to monitor operating conditions by reading meters, gauges and automatic recording devices. 

Ability to repair and/or replace building mechanical systems components, including programmable logic controls, control valves, sensors, etc. 

Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. 

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. 

Ability to repair building systems that are controlled by a central Energy Management Control System (EMCS). 

Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures for digitally controlled HVAC systems featuring programmable logic controls.

Experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.

Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

HVAC/R Mechanic Certificate required.

A qualified candidate/employee must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the enterprise’s insurance carrier.
