Summary
Performs dental prophylaxis for patients of Dental Medicine. Organizes the patient recall system for the department. Exposes dental radiographs. Maintains the hygiene treatment room, instruments, equipment, and sterilizes dental instruments. Serves as a member of the dental patient care team.

Job DutiesAssembles and sets-up equipment and supplies necessary for each patient's treatment. Observes and reports any changes in dental health or problems identified by the patient to the dental resident or supervising dentist. Performs basic dental radiographic procedures using digital radiography. Performs dental prophylaxis for patients. Performs clean-up activities in the operatory, observing safety and infection control policies, procedures, and protocols in handling of instruments, equipment, and supplies. Rooms patient in Epic. Documents care provided and observations made on appropriate Epic forms, maintaining patients' overall dental care records. Maintains adequate dental hygiene supplies in the Dental Facility, checking for sterile outdates. Reports relevant patients/visitors requests and concerns to the appropriate staff promptly, accurately, and objectively using Epic documentation. Documents patient safety issues into the hospital system. Organizes and maintains the patient appointment recall system.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
