Join our team! Laredo Medical Center's (LMC) Wound Care department is now hiring a full-time Hyperbaric Medical Secretary to work at LMC's 326 bed acute care hospital. The department is busy unit with 8 treatments rooms and 4 single chamber hyperbaric units in the main campus of Laredo Medical Center. They have an average of 40 patients a day in this unit. Everyone in the unit report directly to the Director of Wound Care. The Hospital is located in sunny Laredo, Texas, just 150 miles south of historic San Antonio.
Position's Purpose and Essential Functions:
Provides Secretarial support to clinical staff to include answering calls, taking messages and communicates with other members of the hospital staff, physicians, patients and/or their relatives courteously. Maintains patient's charts and monitors for completion in accordance with LMC policy and procedures. Helps with the pre-screening process and completing the admission packet. Performing administrative tasks to support daily unit operations and providing secretarial support to clinical staff. Duties include responding to phone calls or emails, screens callers, relays messages, and greets visitors, maintaining an organized filing system and restocking office/medical supplies as needed. Cleaning and disinfecting equipment between patients. Collecting information on equipment rentals and ordering equipment as needed for in-patients. Responsible for unit charges and physician's billing and following revenue reports daily. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Position Insight:
Serves as the contact person for all unit referrals coming from in-house and outside facilities.Answering calls, taking messages, and communicates with other members of unit staff.Coordinates the admission process into the WoundCare Unit, as well as patients coming from other facilities ensuring all necessary paperwork is in place.Prepare patient charts upon admissions to include History and Physical, lab work and additional information needed.Monitoring daily patient census for inpatient and outpatient unit. Verify daily revenue reports for accurate charges of unit. Verifying physcians superbills and dictation reports on a daily basis.Monitor usage of rental equipment on Bariatric beds and KCI wound vac applications. Verify invoices on all rental equipment usage on inpatient patients.Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Ability to type and perform computer data entry.Preferred: Knowledge of Medical Terminology Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.Experience:
Preferred: One (1) - two (2) years of medical secretary field.Licenses/Certificates:
Preferred: Current National Certification as a Health Unit Coordinator.
