Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Technician

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the hyperbaric physician, performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required. Participates in safety program and certification as appropriate. Data entry and utilization of data software for wound management and daily hyperbaric treatments including photo uploading.  

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in patient preparation for treatment and education as it relates to hyperbaric therapy.Ability to assess patient’s condition, plan and evaluate care throughout the treatment session.Reports reactions and/or changes in patient’s condition to appropriate medical personnel.Maintains confidential and accurate patient records as it pertains to treatments performed and care rendered.Performs hyperbaric chamber operations and system maintenance as required for accreditation.Data entry and utilization of data software for wound management and daily hyperbaric treatments including photo uploading.Participate in safety program and maintain competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

High school diploma required.Completion of a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course is required prior to initial HBO patient treatment.Three years prior clinical experience as an LPN, RRT, Medical Assistant, EMT or Paramedic required.Must have completed a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course prior to initiation of direct patient care. Current certification/licensure in one of the following disciplines required:  Respiratory Therapist, LPN, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or ParamedicMust have a minimum of Heartsaver CPR - Course #1 which includes Adult CPR and Foreign, Body Airway instruction (FBOA). Further requirements are department and unit specific.
