Instrument and Controls Design Engineer

Clover Leaf Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Design Engineer to lead, plan, organize, and coordinate I&C engineering projects. This role involves collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams throughout the planning, design, and construction phases of engineering projects. The successful candidate will have a strong background in control systems engineering and be proficient in designing, reviewing, and executing I&C systems for complex projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, organize, and coordinate I&C engineering projects and multi-disciplinary design teams. Perform a wide range of I&C design activities, including: Design definition, control system architecture, and development. Digital systems, PLC, DCS, network configuration, and logic development. Network switches, process controls, P&ID development and review, HMI, communication protocols, and layout. SIL (Safety Integrity Level) analysis and procurement activities. Interpret and apply National, State, and Local codes, standards, and customer design requirements to prepare engineering design and construction documents, specifications, and system descriptions. Prepare engineering cost and schedule estimates. Generate, review, and ensure the accuracy of design/evaluation calculations and specifications. Utilize advanced 3D modeling and computer-aided drafting applications, such as SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), MicroStation, or AutoCAD, to create and modify designs of moderate to advanced complexity. Walk down field systems with minimal guidance to interpret requirements, create detailed designs, and oversee modifications to existing systems. Develop estimates, schedules, staffing requirements, progress reports, key quantity tracking reports, and project scope documentation. Direct, check, and approve work performed by other designers to ensure project compliance and quality.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Control Systems, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or similar accredited B.S.) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in design, estimating, and construction documentation (nuclear experience preferred). Alternatively, a combination of education and 10 years of directly related experience in drafting and design (associate degree preferred).

Minimum Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship is required. Strong working knowledge of Federal (including Department of Energy Orders), State, and Local codes and standards applicable to control systems engineering design. Proficiency in drafting and design for engineering fields such as electrical, mechanical, structural, communications, architectural, fire protection, or civil engineering. Experience in a collaborative, procedure-based engineering environment. Ability to work in a diverse team setting. Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including background checks and drug testing.

Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), MicroStation, or AutoCAD. Previous nuclear experience, particularly with DOE facilities. Experience in 3D modeling applications, with SmartPlant (S3D) preferred.
