About you and this role

Dow has an exciting job opportunity for an Instrument & Electrical Technician in Seadrift, Texas.

The purpose of this job is to provide instrument and electrical maintenance support. The incumbent will be responsible for installing, testing and maintaining industrial electrical equipment and control systems in a safe manner.

In this role, you will be using your prior related experience, job-related training, or vocational training to complete routine activities. You will need to have basic technical or administrative skills to follow the established and approved work processes. You will need to understand how these assigned duties relate to other jobs within your workgroup and be able to exchange basic technical information with other team members.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for maintaining and repairing all types of instrument systems.Troubleshoot, diagnose, and replace defective components on instrumentation.Ability to read electrical, logic, and loop diagramsElectronic troubleshooting and repair skills are usedCheck Calibrations on gauge, absolute, and differential pressure cellsCheck transmitters for flow indication accuracyCheck transmitters for level indication accuracyCheck conductivity meters for accuracyCheck transmitters for temperature indicated accuracyPerform routine checks and calibrations on shut-down systems.  Ex. Triconex, modicon, relay logic, ABBRecalibrate instrument during major overhaulCalibrate electronic transmitters (Non smart transmitters with zero span adjustments)Calibrate pneumatic transmittersCalibrate final control mechanisms, such as automatically controlled valves or positionersCalibrate and zero-unit combustible detectorsCalibrate mass flow meters, such as Coriolis metersCalibrate and repair transducers/isolators and convertersCheck and set regulatorsCheck and set vacuum, pressure, and temperature switchesCheck and calibrate speed transmittersCheck and calibrate vibration equipmentCheck and calibrate smart transmitters (using communicator/computer interface)Procedure use - this includes field use, review, revise, and development of procedures. Demonstrate the use of the following test equipment (Multimeter, Continuity Tester, Megohmmeter (Megger) andVoltage Tester, such as a Fluke T5-1000 or TegamIdentify and explain ground fault circuit interruptersProperly identify, install/connect and support various lighting fixture systems (Fluorescent, Incandescent, Industrial weatherproof/hazardous lighting, metal halide, etc.)Read and interpret a SEOLD - Safe Electrical One Line Diagram and identify and understand auxiliary circuits associated with each piece of equipmentSpecify, comply and verify equipment for hazardous area classifications according to the hazardous area classification drawingTest to identify grounds, opens, insulation integrity and shorts, perform preventative, predictive maintenance (PPM) and hook-up using different transformer nameplate diagramsOperate a main-tie-main system (i.e., dual voltage source, redundant supply)Identify and connect motor controls for specific applications

Qualifications:

Must have a High School diploma or GED and one of the following:2-year Instrumentation Degree, an Electronics Degree, or similar. In lieu of a degree Dow will consider those with 4 or more years of relevant Military training/experience.NCCER certified in Instrumentation (NCCER Certification obtained through an Instructor Led Training Program is a preference).Able to work on a 4-10 schedule (4 days per week at 10 hours per day) with occasional overtime as dictated by business needs. Participates in an after-hour call rotation for night and weekend coverage.Current, valid US driver’s license.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills:

SAP ExperienceADEPT ExperienceProficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and can learn new systems quickly.

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

The ability to perform physical work such as handling of equipment.Must be willing and able to perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.Required to drive a fork truck and yard goat/mule.Required be able to work outdoors in the plant in all types of weather, climb stairs and ladders, walk and be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.Ability to climb stairs/ladders while performing in an elevated work environment greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE) not limited to respirator, earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes, including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.Must be willing and able to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in tight or closed-in spaces.
