Ice Rink Technician: + Performs ice maintenance duties and is responsible for routine driving of ice resurfacing machine (Zamboni) while keeping events on time according to the ice events schedule. + Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of ice rink surfaces and surrounding facilities with supplemental cleaning duties of lockers rooms and restrooms. + Work schedule will vary but may include nights, weekends, and holidays. + This position is designated as At-Will. + Open to all interested persons aged 19 years and older. Essential Functions Performs and assists in the maintenance of ice resurfacing machines including; appearance, changing blades, greasing parts, and battery upkeep. Maintains ice maintenance including resurfacing, edging, flooding, filling holes, chipping ice along dasher boards, and maintaining proper ice thickness as required by usage. Maintains ice arena upkeep including; taking out the trash, cleaning locker rooms and bathrooms, players benches, flooring and resurfacing garages, changing broken glass, and general clean-up. Maintains and repairs hockey nets. Cleans rink boards, glass, and players benches as needed. Keeps ice events on the schedule. Demonstrates consistent high ethical standards, good communication, and a professional appearance. Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations. Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis. Performs other duties as assigned. (10%) Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training + Working knowledge of ice facility maintenance and operations. + Ability to operate light, medium and heavy power equipment safely; + make decisions and delegate tasks; + guide, train and oversee maintenance staff; enforce compliance with all regulations, standards, and guidelines; + make emergency repairs to equipment and facilities; + display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City of Boise employees and the public; + communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; + complete assignments in a timely fashion; + understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations; + maintain prompt and regular attendance; and + perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation. + Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Licensing And Other Requirements Valid state-issued driver’s license. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. This position works: Nights, weekends and holidays 19-Hour Temporary All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits. 4-Month Temporary All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment. 8-Month Seasonal In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage. 9-Month Temporary In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
