About the jobImagine a pivotal role at the crossroads of technical expertise and AkzoNobel’s diverse businesses — a position where your deep knowledge of IFRS determines the accounting for complex financial transactions. This role is not just about numbers; it's about understanding business developments and transactions, and ensuring compliance within a global finance landscape.
Key Focus Areas
1. Be the Go-To IFRS Expert: You are part of the team with the trusted accounting and reporting authority that other finance teams rely on, unraveling the complexities of IFRS standards and turning them into actionable insights.
2. Orchestrate Collaboration: Act as the linchpin between the corporate accounting team and other departments, ensuring reports are timely and precise.
3. Facilitate Smooth Financial Closings: From monthly reconciliations to annual reviews, you are part of the engine behind seamless financial closures.
4. Navigate Complex Challenges: Let your expertise shine in projects (e.g. M&A) and specialized accounting topics (e.g. pensions), ensuring every decision aligns with best practices.
5. Balance an Open Mind with Compliance: You keep an open mind and listen to stakeholders, whilst you ensure accounting integrity and oversee policies and processes that stand up to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership
Every day, you'll bring clarity to complexity. Whether it’s accounting for restructurings or pension accounting, you will guide the finance teams around the globe. When accounting issues arise or new guidance becomes available, your ability to lead (technical) projects and shape policies will keep the organization on course.
2. Process Management
In this role, you're not just keeping the machine running — you collaborate to make it even better. You’ll bridge teams, refine workflows, and ensure IFRS guidance is not just maintained but further optimized, well understood and applied.
3. Closing Responsibilities
Together with your colleagues in the corporate accounting team, you critically review the reported numbers. With a sharp eye for detail, you’ll interface with finance teams around the globe, to ensure every financial period closes without a hitch.
4. Advisory Functions
When questions arise, you listen with an open mind and ensure you understand the underlying business rationale. At the same time, you’ll be a voice of authority, translating complex accounting standards into practical, business-focused solutions.
5. Project Support
Whenever complex topics or high-impact transactions emerge, , you’ll be one of the trusted guides. From held for sale accounting to purchase price allocations, your insights will co-shape such high-impact transactions and ensure compliance.
Required Qualifications
A solid academic foundation: a Master’s degree in Economics, Accounting, or Business. Professional certifications like RA or CPA—symbols of your mastery in the field. At least six years of hands-on accounting experience, coupled with a deep command of IFRS. Fluent English skills to navigate a global playing field.
Other Technical Skills (tools)
The corporate accounting team uses Hyperion Financial Management, Merlin XL, Workiva W-desk and SAP CFIN. Whatever you do not know about these tools, we’ll teach you on the job. Further, we expect you to be very comfortable with MS tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Core Competencies
Your strategic thinking and stakeholder communication elevate every conversation. Customer-oriented and adaptable, you’re the change agent who thrives in dynamic environments.
Professional Traits
You’re independent yet team-oriented, driven yet pragmatic. Your attention to detail never wavers, even as you maintain focus on the big picture.
The ideal candidate is more than a technical expert. You’re a storyteller of numbers, a bridge-builder between departments, and an expert who pairs knowledge with business insight. If you’re ready to take on a role where every decision leaves a lasting impact, this opportunity is your stage.
