Overview Summary Selected participants, while enrolled in the Illinois Central College Nursing Program, will work 4 hours/week in an eligible Acute Care Unit as a Nurse Apprentice and will also receive an apprentice bonus to help cover living expenses. Program Goal An Apprentice will have support for the academic progression and clinical competence by working beside an experienced OSF nurse to gain real clinical experience that will assist in successful completion of the nursing program and NCLEX licensure exam before transitioning into a full-time Registered Nurse on an Acute Care Unit* at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Full time nursing roles start with a salary of $65,665 and are eligible for additional career ladder compensation with only the potential to grow your salary! Eligibility Participants must be enrolled into the Illinois Central College Nursing program for the Spring 2025 semester. Starting pay for this position is $18.00/hour POSITION SUMMARY: A Nurse Apprentice participates in a formal apprenticeship program during their time enrolled in nursing school. The program is for students accepted and enrolled into the accredited nursing program at local institutions engaged in a partnership with OSF HealthCare. During the program, participants will spend 4 hours each week in a clinical setting with a registered nurse working as a nurse intern participating in the care provided to patients including assessments, documentation, care plan development, communication with interdisciplinary team members, patient education, participation in procedures, and development of other nursing skills. During summer breaks when school is not in session the nurse apprentice will work full time as a nurse intern in an approved department. The goal of this program is to transition into a Registered Nurse role on an eligible unit after your apprenticeship, graduation, and completion of nursing licensure boards. Clinical experiences help grow assessment skills to assist in successful completion of the NCLEX licensure exam. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School/GED. Must be enrolled in the Illinois Central College accredited Nursing Program where an Associate Degree in Nursing will be awarded. Licensure/ Certification: American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider certification Other Skills/ Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. Must be accepted into the Illinois Central College Nursing Program where an associate degree in nursing will be awarded. Remain in good standing in the nursing program. Complete 1- 4 hour shift each week working as an intern with a nurse in an immersion experience and during summer breaks from the ICC Nursing Program. OSF HealthCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
