MRI Imaging Care Technician
**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** Day Shift **Description:** Schedule: Full-time 10a-8pm M-F, no weekends, rotating holidays **GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:** Under the direction of a technologist / radiologist, the imaging care technician (ICT) is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. ICT demonstrates department-designated competencies. The ICT will assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship centered care. **SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:** + HS Diploma or GED + Six (6) months of previous related experience in the area of patient care delivery required. + Successful completion of formal department orientation required to meet the quality and productivity standards of the job. + Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, and other employees + Ability to: + Follow instructions and record patient information. + Prioritize assigned tasks and organize work. + Walk and stand for 90% of shift. + Lift, turn, and position patients. + Concentrate and pay close attention to details for over 90% of time. + Able to work in area with potential exposure to infectious agents and/or contaminants. **ESSENTIAL SKILLS** Performs specific tasks as delegated. Provides timely feedback and follow up to radiology staff regarding patient response. Receives and provides report to other caregivers. Promptly responds to patient requests. Inform patients about planned procedures and treatments in order to reduce fear and anxieties and to encourage patient cooperation. Performs activities which may be modality specific such as: + Venipuncture + Obtains blood specimens + Start and discontinue IV lines (not to include regulating drip rate) + Routine oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry + Gathers data for post procedure check such as peripheral pulses, vital signs, presence of hematoma and circulation checks + Other modality specific activities as delegated by radiology staff. Performs patient care functions within but not limited to: + PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) + RIS (Radiology Information System) + Hospital Order-Entry System Records patient information and required data in appropriate areas. Transports patients as needed. Performs modality specific patient interviews / tasks as delegated such as: + Pre MRI screening form + Contrast forms + Patient history forms + Discontinues peripheral intravenous + Collects/sends/takes labeled specimens to the lab Obtains pertinent information from patient chart such as: + Admitting assessment/diagnosis + Allergies + List of medications Assists in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family wellbeing such as: + Orient patient/family to waiting and changing areas + Prepare patient for exam + Verify patient name, date of birth and medical record number + Verify exam to be performed + Prepare exam room for arrival, assists in transfers to/from modality table and assists in discharge of patients + Cleans and maintains equipment according to procedures Completes delegated department specific activities such as: + Gathers post procedural data for entry into Radiology Information System, RIS. + Checks/restocks equipment/supplies Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills. Performs other unit specific duties as delegated. Seeks ongoing learning experiences by attending appropriate in-services, continuing education and mandatory programs. Attends annual radiation safety in-service as modality requires. Applies awareness of potential radiation hazards and observes appropriate radiation safety 14. Attends annual BLS certification. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in private places. Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Demonstrates all SJMHS "Performance Standards: Focus on Others". Fully integrates Relationship Centered Care into role. Follows all SJMHS policies and procedures including infection control (use of body substance isolation and use of personal protective equipment when in contact with body fluids). Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers.
