IMMEDIATE: Social Worker, Student Well-Being (10 month), Alternative Education, 1.0 FTE

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under direction of the director, Student Well-being and Achievement, in the Office of Student and Family Support and Engagement (OSFSE), this professional will serve as a liaison between the department¿s programs, school personnel, families and outside resources. They will be responsible for providing support to students placed in school programs, including alternative learning, by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Additionally, they will be responsible for working alongside the Associate to create programs and services that will support the Be Well 365 framework of student and staff well-being.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
A valid license issued by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners; must be licensed at the LCSW-C level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of MCPS and the local agencies providing services to youth and their families. Excellent clinical knowledge and skill in working with students experiencing significant social, emotional and behavioral issues and their families. Knowledge of MCPS alternative programs and philosophies related to alternative education. Knowledge of diversion programs for youth, restorative justice and practices, and rehabilitative practices for youth. Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws, policies and regulations related to special education in general and serious emotional disabilities specifically. Ability to assist in developing and monitoring individualized education programs (IEPs) that include appropriate social skills, behavioral and academic goals. Be familiar with surface management strategies, as needed. Excellent human relations, oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams and to function effectively in multiple environments. Knowledge of the teacher SSPGS.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree in social work from an accredited college or university. A minimum of five (5) years paid experience in a setting working with students with emotional/behavioral needs. Experience and training which demonstrates successful use of clinical skills in working with such students with significant behavioral challenges and their families, and related youth programs and agencies. Or other combination of applicable education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position.
