Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II with expertise in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The ideal candidate will collect and store specimens according to established procedures, explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and courteously, and demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and courteously.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.Accurately label and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsProficient in blood draw, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and laboratory procedures.Certified Phlebotomist.Minimum of 1-2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab, ambulatory setting, or hospital setting.High draw volume experience.Experience or comfort in drawing from pediatric patients independently.Additional Skills & QualificationsBilingual in Spanish is a plus.Active IL phlebotomy certification.Work Environment
This role requires the ability to float with varied hours to cover a territory including Gurnee (home base), Waukegan, North Chicago, Highland Park, Round Lake Beach, Zion, Libertyville, Deerfield, Kenosha, Hayward, Lake Forest, Grayslake, Lindenhurst, and Lake Bluff. The work schedule is Monday to Friday with rotating Saturdays, between 6am-8pm. Availability is required for different clinic start/end times within these hours.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
