Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II with proficiency in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontaminating equipment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens following established procedures, explaining the venipuncture process to patients, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations. This role requires someone who can demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles and handle pediatric patients comfortably.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.Accurately label and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.Essential SkillsProficiency in blood draw, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and laboratory procedures.Certified Phlebotomist with active IL phlebotomy certification.Minimum of 1-2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab, ambulatory setting, or hospital setting.High draw volume experience.Comfortable with drawing blood from pediatric patients independently.Additional Skills & QualificationsBilingual in Spanish is a plus.Work Environment
The position requires the ability to float with varied hours to cover multiple territories, including Gurnee (home base), Waukegan, North Chicago, Highland Park, Round Lake Beach, Zion, Libertyville, Deerfield, Kenosha, Hayward, Lake Forest, Grayslake, Lindenhurst, and Lake Bluff. The work schedule is Monday through Friday with rotating Saturdays, any 9 hours between 8am to 8pm. The specific hours will vary as some clinics start and end at different times.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
