Job Summary

A research assistant is sought for the Safe. Empathetic. Trustworthy. (SET) laboratory with Dr. Areen Alsaid. This is a temporary position, paid bi-weekly at an hourly rate determined by the faculty project sponsor. The weekly work expectation is 10 to 20 hours per week.

Undergraduate student candidates will be hired under the ?Assistant in Research? title.

Responsibilities*

Selected candidates will perform routine research tasks, including conducting literature reviews, administering questionnaires, and collecting, coding, and analyzing data. They will collaborate with PhD students and other lab members to support experimental design, including creating structured research frameworks, defining hypotheses, and ensuring valid and reliable results. Responsibilities also include conducting human subject research in adherence to ethical guidelines, engaging with participants, and collecting qualitative and quantitative data, as well as analyzing results using statistical tools such as Excel, SPSS, or R. Candidates must successfully complete PEERRS modules to ensure responsible research practices. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervising faculty.

Required Qualifications*At least an undergraduate degree in engineering or related field. Must be a current IMSE graduate student at UM-DearbornSelf-motivation and willingness to learn new applications and the ability to work independentlyGood communication skillsGood organizational and documentation skills for keeping track of data and multiple analysis stepsProficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, internet search engines, internet and mobile devices

Technical skills required for this position:

Experimental Design: Developing structured research frameworks, defining hypotheses, and ensuring valid and reliable results.Human Subject Research: Engaging with participants, adhering to ethical guidelines, and collecting qualitative and quantitative data.Data Analysis: Proficiency in using statistical tools such as Excel, SPSS, or R for analyzing research data.Background Screening
