We are seeking a curious and adaptable Tax Manager to lead our tax function. The primary responsibilities in this role are outlined as follows:
Support the preparation of federal, state, local, and special tax returns for both Canada and the U.S. By collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial data.
Prepare quarterly tax provision working papers and related journal entries.
Manage and mentor the Tax Analyst to ensure effective execution of tax responsibilities.
Oversee the preparation and filing of franchise tax returns, non-income-based filings, and annual reports.
Assist in responding to IRS, CRA, and state/local authority notices and other tax-related communications.
Lead and manage income tax audits, ensuring thorough preparation and strategic responses.
Implement tax planning initiatives to optimize the company’s tax position and ensure compliance.
Support and enhance processes and documentation to mitigate control risks in tax-related areas.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations by researching applicable laws, enforcing adherence, and advising management on necessary actions; collaborate with attorneys, tax specialists, and transfer agents to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting.
Review and oversee monthly U.S. and Canada sales tax calculations submitted by outsourcing firms.
Oversee the compliance of Personal Property Tax Returns prepared by outsourcing firms.
Play a key role in building and developing the company's income tax function, contributing to the overall tax strategy and operations.
Work closely with the finance, accounting, legal, and operations teams to ensure that tax implications are considered in all business decisions.
Provide tax support to other business areas, including payroll and 1099 compliance.
Manage and optimize tax credits and incentives, such as WOTC, R&D credits, and investment credits.
Education and/or Experience Required
CPA Designation preferred
Minimum of 5 years experience of working with corporate taxes, Income tax preferred.
