This role is part of the North America Tax Team reporting up to the Tax Director and this role has one senior level direct report.

As the Indirect Tax Manager, you will be responsible for managing the company’s indirect tax function. You will exercise your knowledge in all matters of sales and use tax and a general knowledge of VAT. This includes the responsibility of Vertex O tax engine software administration, outsourced compliance management of US sales tax and VAT, and property taxes; supporting sales and use tax and property tax audit defense; and acting as primary contact in addressing tax issues on customer and vendor invoices.

Additionally, you will work collaboratively on exciting integral projects and implementations that impact the business. This position will be part of the North American Tax Team and will support all transaction tax compliance, reporting, and audit activities.

In this role you’ll:

Manage outsourced U.S. and Canadian sales and use/VAT/GST/HST tax compliance. 

Manage property tax and other indirect tax compliance to ensure timely accurate reporting and remittance. 

Work with our Finance Teams to ensure all tax liabilities accounts and payments are reconciled and recorded timely and accurately during month and quarter end close. 

Manage business and tax registrations.

Maintain as administrator sales tax matrixes within Vertex O tax engine and review product taxability configurations based on product descriptions for the purpose of product mappings into Vertex tax codes.

Perform complex tax related configurations in Vertex O, including tax assist rules, troubleshooting and resolving issues.

Collaborate with various internal teams to perform and clearly communicate indirect tax analysis relating to impactful internal projects.  Be the tax representative in the decision-making process.

Research and communicate analysis of risks and opportunities in existing and prospective markets as well as handle related voluntary disclosures (VDA). 

Lead sales and use tax research and work on special assignments as directed, including data collection. 

Provide recommendations on various indirect tax matters including working with Legal and Sales Team on contractual language and tax implications.

Provide indirect tax support including customer invoice inquiries, contract inquiries, review of valid exemption certificates and tax determination based on state regulations.

Guide and develop indirect tax direct report on data facilitation and compliance functions to efficiently and timely meet all deliverables with outsourced compliance vendors, including management of payments. 

Develop and standardize a reconciliation process for all relevant tax accounts to be performed quarterly. 

Manage the timely filings and payments for other indirect tax compliance such as property tax, business and occupation tax, commercial activity tax, business licenses, etc.

About the ideal candidate:

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in accounting/taxation and/ or equivalent work experience.

Fluency in spoken and written business English is required

Minimum of 7-10+ years of corporate in-house tax and/or public accounting experience.

Technical Competencies:

Must have current Vertex O Admin & master advanced excel skills

SAP S4Hana, Coupa, Zuora billing experience

Work experience in a global company

Previous work experience in the software industry  

A strategic mindset and strong analytical and problem resolution skills to manage and reconcile large volume of transactional data to report internally and externally

Must have recent 7-10 years management experience leading a team of at least one direct report

Implementation of Vertex O at current or previous employer a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

US sales and use tax, Canadian GST/HST, general VAT tax knowledge

Must be a self-starter    

Must have strong research skills

Ability to communicate issues in a clear and effective manner.

Well-developed organizational, time management, planning and prioritization skills

Team player that cultivates collaboration and leadership throughout the global organization.

Ability to travel as needed.
