Industrial Electrician II (EES Coke Battery)

EES Coke Operations is a facility in River Rouge, MI on Zug Island. The plant produces coke from various types of coal blends and is then used as fuel in the blast furnaces at the steel mill.

 

This is not a position with Detroit Edison, it's a position with EES Coke Battery, which is a subsidiary of DTE Energy.

 

The position includes health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance starting day one of employment. Currently, we are offering a $2,500 signing bonus and an additional $2,500 upon successful completion of the probationary period of 1,040 hours. This position also receives quarterly bonuses of up to $7,500 per year, based on EES Coke Battery’s quality and production. The pay range for this position is  $37.35  -  $41.86.

The person in this job will work a 12-hour rotating shift. The schedule is a 4-week rotation; you will work 14 out of 28 days with 7 days off in a row somewhere within the 4-week rotation.

Job Summary

Location: River Rouge, MI


Performs all maintenance functions necessary to maintain all operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment including mobile equipment as required.  Operates equipment in conjunction with repairs and assists in operating functions as necessary to maintain continuity of operations.  May work alone, with minimal supervision or with other Maintenance Technicians and coordinates and works in conjunction with operating team members in the performance of maintenance tasks.


This job has three levels (A, B, C) that an individual may progress through once the minimum experience requirement is met and the written test is passed. The Electrician II may progress to the next level when the practical hands-on and proficiency tests have been passed. Passing the first test within a level will earn the electrician the mid-range pay rate, and the second test passed will progress the electrician to the third and highest pay rate within that level.

•    Maintains various types of machinery in the coke making process

Qualifications

•    A high school diploma or GED
•    A valid driver’s license
•    Must have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience including the following:
•    Knowledge of motor starters including how to read and explain the schematic (reversing starter and PLC controlled starter), how to use a voltmeter to troubleshoot. Thorough understanding of the power distribution system and how to perform 480V and 4800V switching as well as an understanding of critical electrical equipment. How to read electrical prints, how to check fuses, OL’s, transformer, contactors, etc., how to use a meggar, qualified in arc flash.
•    Must pass written test on electrical concepts with specific EES Coke knowledge that includes the following: 
•    Describe the sequence of events to isolate 4800V Transformer feeding a 480V buss.
•    Open 4800, open tie, remove main, close tie (paying attention to arc flash). 
•    Overall 4800V system knowledge
•    Explain difference between AC and DC motor control
•    Knowledge of open delta system and checking for grounds within a system
•    Strong safety experience
•    Ability to work in a team orientated atmosphere
•    Demonstrated capability to achieve results through people, technology, and processing equipment
•    Good knowledge of the assigned area(s) of responsibility
•    Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
•    Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with coworkers and business unit leaders
•    Must be goal oriented

Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and equipment with high temperatures. Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators; fire retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc. Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline). The noise level in the work environment may occasionally go above the threshold, requiring PPE.
