INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN / MECHANIC 2nd Shift

Job Summary:

This position performs troubleshooting and repairs on all plant electrical and control equipment, including PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and other control devices. It also provides mechanical repairs as needed to keep the plant operating efficiently. The position is responsible for minor equipment programming, making changes to control systems, and troubleshooting plant electrical and mechanical equipment to maintain an efficient production operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Diagnose malfunctioning electrical and control systems, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, components, and mechanical equipment to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem in a timely manner. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair while ensuring compliance with all codes. Installs electrical components according to code and best practices in our environment. Makes repairs to safety-related items as assigned in a safe and efficient manner. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, and other components. Performs PMs and repairs for electrical and mechanical-related items and responds to urgent or emergency situations, as needed. Performs mechanical work as needed, assisting others to provide safe and reliable repairs. Assists in electrical and control supplies and spare parts ordering. Responsible for completing proper maintenance records, PMs, and reports of unusual conditions and identifying added work that is needed. Observe all Federal, State, and Company safety regulations. Adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and maintains associated records in an accurate and timely manner. Properly stores supplies, lubes, cleaners, and other materials. Maintains assigned work areas in a neat and orderly fashion, with good housekeeping. May be required to perform other duties related to the job. Performs required lock out/tag out as required. Performs other electrical and mechanical work as assigned. Works in a manufacturing plant environment, including processing equipment, drying and screening equipment, bagging lines, and associated materials handling equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Prior experience troubleshooting and programming PLCs, VFDs, and other control devices and industrial electrical and mechanical equipment in an industrial environment. Minimum 5 to 7 years of industrial and mechanical experience in a production processing and packaging environment and mobile equipment facility. E.D. or high school diploma and Trade school or other electrical training preferred. Must be familiar with the Lock Out/Tag Out Policy and Procedures. Requires thorough knowledge of heavy industrial electrical and mechanical maintenance practices. Proficient in troubleshooting 3-phase motor control center troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair. Proficient in 480V 3-phase and power feeder circuits. Proficiency in reading schematics and calculating wire size and motor horsepower requirements for new installations. Able to use schematics and ladder logic to troubleshoot PLCs, soft starts, and other types of motor control circuits. Must be familiar with the safe operation of required equipment. Knowledge of programming of Allen Bradley PLCs, VFD, and control systems. Completes and documents PM’s in a timely and safe manner. Maintains good housekeeping during and after the completion of work and repairs. Good communication with other line personnel to ensure productive operation. Must be able to utilize computers and SAP/CMMS systems to complete tasks.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work overtime as necessary. Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hi-visibility apparel, gloves, etc.) and additional arc-rated apparel as needed. Works with varying ranges in temperature and humidity. The environment has a fair amount of noise and dust. Some work must be done around machinery and equipment that is in motion as well as around energized power cables. Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, and move about the facility. Must be able to work from heights and wear/utilize a full-body harness to perform work as necessary. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Must be able to ascend and descend a ladder safely.
