Position Description
This position may be located in a Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant or in Field Services in the Metro Water Services Operations division. The primary duties of this position will be installing, operating, trouble-shooting, maintaining, and repairing electronics equipment and systems. Position will require work performance in a field setting.
Work requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities. Employees will be required to work indoors and outside in all weather conditions in potentially hazardous conditions, and may be exposed to chemicals and other contaminants.
Employees at Metro Water Services work around the clock to ensure high quality drinking water, and the best in storm water management and wastewater treatment for the residents of Nashville-Davidson County and some surrounding areas. It takes electricians, chemists, engineers, mechanics, information technology workers, customer service representatives and more working together to service more than 176,000 water, 190,000 stormwater and 189,000 sewer accounts.
Typical Duties
+ Repairs, installs, maintains, tests/trouble-shoots and services electronic equipment (process instrumentation and control systems) at water and sewer treatment plants and pumping stations. Equipment examples include: Variable Frequency Drives, Flowmeters, level measurement devices, pressure transducers, Industrial Control Components, and MWS private radio network (SCADA).
+ Reads and correctly interprets diagrams, blueprints, electronic construction drawings, and equipment specifications.
+ Uses testing equipment to assist with determining proper course of action.
+ Maintains logs of all repair and maintenance activities.
+ Orders parts and equipment as directed.
+ Inspects completed jobs for quality assurance.
+ May resolve and/or troubleshoot complex problems pertaining to equipment usage.
+ Ensures safety of self, other employees, and property.
+ Maintains personal tools and equipment to established safety standards.
+ Consults with vendors/manufacturers for purchase quotations, maintenance, and repair of systems and equipment.
+ Assists other crafts (mechanical and electrical) in pulling equipment for repair, running conduit and performing emergency equipment maintenance.
+ Maintains accurate work records.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Electronic Technology or similar degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
High School Diploma and two (2) years of experience maintaining and repairing electronic equipment.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Experience troubleshooting and repairing Industrial Control Systems (ABB, Citect, Wonderware, Allen Bradley, and/or Schneider Electric-Modicon)
+ Experience with equipment, materials, methods, and tools used in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment
+ Knowledge of all hazards and related safety precautions
+ Skill in operating simple to complex electronic equipment
+ Skill in interpreting complex blueprints and written diagrams
+ Experience reading and comprehending complex technical manuals
