Primary Responsibilities

The primary duties of the Industrial Energy Transition Lead will involve identifying and pursuing opportunities to support new and existing clients to establish energy targets and develop strategic plans, initiatives, and roadmaps for realizing these goals. Responsibilities for this position will include internal and external client and business development, market penetration strategy development and implementation, and serving as a technical consultant and/or client/project manager for strategic projects primarily in electrification, electrified and hydrogen mobility, distributed generation and other emerging markets.

The candidate will also work with Industrial and Power Market sector leadership on implementation of HDR’s national market approach and overall strategy. The Leader will be expected to establish and maintain strong client relationships and an in-depth understanding of clients’ business objectives.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Identify and pursue opportunities to deliver a variety of HDR services in the energy market including but not limited to consulting, advisory services, owners engineering, asset management, due diligence, and planning. Responsible for assisting clients with the formulation, assessment, and implementation plans of energy systems and portfolios ranging from microgrid scale to large scale utility systems.Serve as Project and/or Client Manager for key contracts and be responsible for the coordination, quality, and timely completion of projects or programs.Leader should be capable of helping clients think strategically about how they generate and consume energy including potential funding and financing alternatives. Coordinate the involvement and input of multi-discipline planning teams involving those with expertise in power delivery, thermal generation, engineering, project controls, environmental permitting, site assessments, project economics, and risk assessment.Participation in internal planning meetings to identify target markets and clients. Establishment and maintenance of client relationships and involvement with marketing, contractual, and development meetings. Candidate should be able to recognize other HDR services and activities outside of core development services that would benefit clients.Participation in reviews with applicable internal and external project stakeholders including client legal and commercial teams, third party developers, connecting utilities, regulatory agencies, and supporting public engagement.Conducting work sessions for planning, design and contract document development in conjunction with other staff.Perform other duties as needed – it is desired that Leader have a specific interest in helping clients navigate processes and solve problems, regardless of the specific content.Lead sustainability efforts in the Food Beverage market. Position and win opportunities with Food Beverage clients to meet Sustainability goals (such as Water minimalization, Waste Management, Energy transition, etc.)Serve as HDR’s Hydrogen Subject Matter ExpertPresent at industry and client events to support HDR brand awareness.

Preferred Qualifications:

15 years of experience including 3 years in a development role in the energy industry, specifically in the areas of decarbonization, electrification, and distributed generation.Experience helping clients manage energy transitions.Demonstrated ability to establish new business relationships and closing business. Experience with consulting, planning, design, construction, and operation of energy systems.Understanding of policy and financial drivers for the energy market.Participant in industry professional organizations, publications, and conferences. Understanding of the various energy markets in the United States and ability to identify and market renewable and other energy opportunities within those markets.Must have client development and management skills with a strong ability to maintain a high standard of quality.Travel approximately 25% of time.Must have excellent communication, presentation and writing skills.
