Industrial Instructor II - Water System Plant Operator - NOR

Duties:

Conducts routine and specialized maintenance and repairs physical facilities; Supervises the same when conducted by outside venders/contractors. Perform daily overall duties per established practices under direction of the Water Plant Supervisor. Respond to emergencies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Organize daily work under minimum supervision. Inspect grounds, pump station, well, tanks, hydrants, treatment facilities, telemetry and charts, and samplings to ensure good and proper working conditions. Complete paperwork, records, and reports, takes water samples, meter readings and implements D.E.P. regulations and monitors meet standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE MUST HAVE POSSESSION OF A

D2 (DISTRIBUTION) T2 (TREATMENT) WATER OPERATOR’S LICENSE

AND A VALID MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE

SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS

A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION, DRUG SCREENING,

OSHA RESPIRATOR MEDICAL EVALUATION AND BACKGROUND

AND MUST ATTEND A FOUR (4) WEEK RECRUIT ACADEMY

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of one-year water plant operations and maintenance experience. Plumber’s and/or electrician license is not required but encouraged. Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and detailed knowledge of water operations. Specific knowledge of chemical processing, water sampling, calibration of equipment, handling hazardous chemical spills and pump station maintenance. Physically able to complete required tasks on the job and availability to respond 24 hours a day for emergencies.

Comments:

This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title and score must be reached in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bi-lingual applicants to apply.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
