Industrial Instructor III - Water System Plant Operator - NOR

Duties:

Supervises all day-to-day functions and operations of the greensand filtration plant and distribution system. Oversees and is responsible for all monitoring, testing, treating, recordkeeping, and maintenance of the system equipment. Responsible for the supervision of all personnel assigned to the treatment and distribution systems. Responsible for the treatment and distribution of drinking water to the Norfolk/Cedar Junction Correctional Complex. Conducts testing for water quality in accordance with all laws and regulations associated with the MA DEP and Clean Water Act. Oversees daily operation and maintenance of pumping stations, wells, water mains, water services, valves, hydrants, and meters. Must be available to respond within 1 hour to emergencies 24 hours a day/7 day a week. As the Primary Operator of the water systems, you are responsible for the safe and proper operation as governed by MA DEP Drinking Water Regulations 310 CMR 22.00. Performs other duties as assigned.

CANDIDATE MUST HAVE POSSESSION OF A

FULL D2 (DISTRIBUTION) T2 (TREATMENT) WATER OPERATOR’S LICENSE

AND A VALID MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE

SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS

A PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION, DRUG SCREENING,

OSHA RESPIRATOR MEDICAL EVALUATION AND BACKGROUND

AND MUST ATTEND A FOUR (4) WEEK RECRUIT ACADEMY

Preferred Qualifications:

Possess a high school diploma. A strong working knowledge of MA DEP Drinking Water Regulation, 310 CMR 22.00. MA Driver’s license. A minimum of one year water operations and maintenance experience. Supervisory experience

Comments:

This is a Civil Service position. Candidate must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for this title and score must be reached in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents. The DOC urges bilingual applicants to apply.

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in industrial arts work, the major duties of which involved training or instructing, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in industrial arts may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
