JOB SUMMARY: In collaboration with the Director of Infection Control and Prevention, the Infection Preventionist will assist with implementation of the hospital-wide infection control program. The Infection Preventionist responsibilities include but are not limited to: investigating healthcare-associated infections, serving as a subject matter expert; implementing interventions; providing feedback to staff; and participating in the Infection Control Committee.

Minimum Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in hospital infection control. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Determines the presence of a hospital associated infection based on clinical data Utilize epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and investigations Communicate data to various committees across the organization as assigned Leads quality improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring HAI rates and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis Participates in hospital organized PI activities specific to infection reduction strategies. Implements task forces to address infection clusters to ensure rapid improvement. Supports infection control activities as it relates to other improvement strategies, ie immunization programs, hand hygiene, surgical care, pneumonia and sepsis reduction strategies, etc Writes, updates, reviews and revises the policies and practices in the Manual of Infection Control as needed. Is a resource to healthcare workers for policies and practice. Provides orientation of Infection Prevention program to new employees. Collaborates with the Occupational Health Department as it pertains to infectious disease prevention. Identifies educational needs for medical and hospital staff related to Infection Control and conducts departmental in-services as needed. Actively serves on hospital committees as appropriately assigned and assumes chairperson role when indicated. Coordinates trials of new equipment to minimize risk of infection. Reports cases of communicable disease to local and state public health departments. Advisor for hospital construction and renovation activities.Essential Skills:
