Infection Preventionist
+ DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION + The primary purpose of the position is to assist in the planning and implementing of the infection control program in accordance with applicable federal, state and local regulations, standards, and guidelines. The Infection Preventionist performs surveillance, provides educational programs, and consults with personnel, management, and medical staff regarding infection control. + POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) + Experience: + Progressive four-year experience in a healthcare setting is required. Two years in infection control capacity in acute care, skilled nursing facility, or home health preferred. + Education and Training: + Bachelor’s Degree is required, science or related field preferred. Certificate program or recent in-services in infection control preferred. + License, Certification & Registration: + Infect Control - Certification in Infection Control within two years of hire. + Other Requirements: + Proven ability to function independently. Excellent interpersonal skills with a variety of people including patients, families, employees, physicians, outside contractors and agencies required. + Current knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures preferred. + Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to hospitals. + Proven leadership & negotiation skills. Excellent interpersonal and consultation skills required. Working knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, and asepsis preferred. + Proven ability to participate in program planning and implementation. + Computer experience required. + Ability to track,trend & analyze data to create action plans for performance improvement. + Ability to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
