Infection Preventionist I

In a direct patient facing environment, the Infection Preventionist professional implements, promotes and maintains an active infection prevention program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, policy development and research. 


A caregiver in this position works Days + Calls, from 8:00am - 5:00pm.


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Conduct surveillance for hospital acquired infections; analyzes data. Generates reports, identifies trends. 

Provide recommendations for improvement. 

Investigate clusters of infections, outbreaks. 

Utilize knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient care equipment. 

Develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures. 

Conduct audits on infection prevention practices. 

Provide education and serves as a consultant to various levels of care providers. 

Coordinate infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities. 

Coordinate the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review, and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan. Reports communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health. 

Collaborate with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases. 

Comply with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Bachelor's degree. 

Three years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technology. 

Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs). 

Certified in Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. 

CBIC is required after two years of hire date. 

CBIC Certification will offset one year of required experience. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Registered Nurse (RN).
