ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Plans, organizes, implements, evaluates, coordinates, and directs our infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern such requirements in nursing care facilities. Working with the Director of Nursing Services, ensures clinical competency of nursing staff through observed skills evaluation and ensures completion of annual assessments for clinical personnel. Plans, develops, implements, evaluates and directs the facility’s infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulation and guidelines. Ensures the facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, local and federal regulations concerning infection control or standard/universal precautions.

JOB DUTIES

Oversees the process for competency evaluation and orientation of new clinical department personnel Ensures that documentation of all training and education is completed and maintained in accordance with state, federal and Avamere compliance program requirements. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator and/or DNS as necessary/required concerning the infection control program. Make rounds for the purpose of case findings, review of environmental sanitation procedures and supervision of isolation precautions/practices. Performs surveillance activities Review and analyze infectious disease laboratory reports and consult with DNS and/or RCM in developing the care plan Prepares monthly summaries of all resident/personnel infections, corrective action taken and results of corrective action. Prepare summaries of special investigations on the occurrence of health care associate and community acquired infections. Reports all findings to the QAPI committee and DNS. Coordinates, organizes, and implements the facility’s Antibiotic stewardship program. Assists ancillary departments in developing infection control procedures for routine cleaning, terminal cleaning of resident rooms (if indicated), equipment cleaning, etc. Assist in the development and implementation of a facility wide TB management control program and vaccination program. Reports all reportable diseases to the county and/or state health department. Manages employee health program, including; Tracking of employee illness of identification of development infection trends and enforcement of applicable work restrictions Coordinates employee vaccination campaign Coordinates TB screening Provides clinical oversight to support the Director of Nursing Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance. Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with patients, residents and employees and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure. Performs other related duties as assigned.
