Entity: Aultman Health System

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the HDS Executive Lab Director, manages overall functionality of Laboratory Information Systems and all third-party integrations, for the Aultman Health System.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to design, implementation, training, data collection/system configuration, testing, maintenance, and support troubleshooting.  This individual works collaboratively with the Laboratory and IT teams, to achieve strategic goals and meet the needs of stakeholders (leadership, ALS clients, patients, providers, etc.).

Areas of Oversight Summary:

The Aultman Health System laboratories provide clinical testing in the areas of hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, toxicology, serology, and blood bank.  The Aultman Health system includes Aultman Canton, Aultman Alliance, Aultman Orrville, and Aultman Massillon. Primary testing clients include the Emergency Department, Cancer Center, Intensive Care Units, various Aultman Hospital inpatient departments, in addition to serving Aultman Health System outpatients and Aultman Laboratory Services Clients.  This highly automated clinical laboratory offers an extensive test menu and performs close to 4.0 million tests a year.

Point-of-care testing is defined as medical testing performed at or near the site of patient care by non-laboratory healthcare professionals (i.e. RNs, LPNS, patient care techs, physicians, etc.).  Aultman Laboratory Services oversees various waived and non-waived point of care tests performed in inpatient and outpatient settings across multiple locations.  A few examples of the point of care testing performed include: blood gases, blood glucoses, urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, creatine testing, etc.

Job Qualifications:

Laboratory Information System or prior experience with clinical information technology applications in healthcare setting preferred (ex. Cerner, EPIC, Meditech) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience/training required. Bachelor of Science degree, including twelve-month training in an approved program for Medical Laboratory Science, with certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by an approved certifying agency or Associate of Science degree with MLT certification preferred. Two years of laboratory clinical experience is preferred. Participation in an information system implementation preferred (computer programming, planning, design, testing, validation, documentation, & ongoing support) Experience with Microsoft Office suite including but not limited to email, word processing, spread sheets, presentation and other necessary computer skills to fulfill job requirements Willingness to travel to remote sites as applicable.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Analyzes, designs, implements, and maintains complex technological systems to enhance patient care and meet laboratory needs. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the design, development, and application of technological systems. Provides application knowledge when implementing and maintaining information systems Collaborates with appropriate departments and outside vendors to develop/maintain system needs Monitors system change control requests and department Help Desk queues Monitors the daily operations of the information system application Challenges current processes and looks to introduce new methods leveraging technology Participates in downtimes and upgrades of information system applications Cross-trains in all third-party integrations that connect to the LIS to provide adequate guidance and support to the laboratory. Including, but not limited to: Elkay, CernerHub, Telcor, ADM, Workflow, HemoHub, etc. Provides project management for the IT portion of laboratory projects. Collaborates, analyzes and troubleshoots applications Participates in the process for system revisions or upgrades Participates in end user issue research, training and education Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current trends and issues in health care, recommended end user workflows, national and state regulations Organizational skills: ability to prioritize multiple activities and objectives in a fast-paced dynamic environment Networking with other application users via site visits, user group meetings, and other communication to maintain a resource for problem solving and new approaches to standard procedures Think critically and work efficiently in high stress situations Communicate effectively with colleagues, nursing units, providers, and laboratory leadership. Working Conditions:

Work eight hours a day. This unit requires 24/7 coverage. Primarily dayshift with off-shift coverage, as assigned On-call rotation as needed Ability to sit for extended periods of time Ability to work in a team setting
