Informatics pharmacists are responsible for analysis, design, testing documentation, implementation, support and auditing of comprehensive pharmacy information systems. This includes maintaining the integrity of automation systems, relevant databases, information system infrastructure, hospital-wide interfacing, and pharmacy billing systems. Informatics pharmacists provide data derived from pharmacy technology and automation to aid in making sound operational decisions. Informatics pharmacists participate in quality improvement projects to improve patient care and pharmacy operations. Informatics pharmacists must work effectively, communicate clearly, assertively, and professionally. They must provide superior customer service when interacting with staff, co-workers, patients, and vendors. Informatics pharmacists must be willing to work with trainees in the department (eg, students, interns, residents or new staff).

Responsibilities Evaluates, analyses, implements, maintains and develops systems functionality to meet clinical objectives.Maintains and provides support of pharmacy information systems and all pharmacy applications systems to ensure successful operation.Directs and develops the preparation of functional and technical software specifications that reflect an in depth understanding of the business and end- user requirements while also considering the IT standards and technical direction.Solves problems and recommends solutions for pharmacy informatics applications and the medication use process. This includes identifying and engaging in organizational quality improvement activities to improve patient care, medication use processes, and pharmacy operations.Demonstrates strong project management skills through project plan development, tracking and workflow analysis. This includes functioning as a strong team member and leader.Provides superior customer service as a liaison between users, including clinical and business users, and the application teams.Effectively train residents, students, interns, colleagues and other health care professionals as well as supervise technicians, residents, interns, or trainees in the use of pharmacy and medication use related technology.Support data analytics functions including developing and generating queries and reports that provide audit information for patient safety and financial improvements.Performs the essential functions of a clinical pharmacist.Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesAbility to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.Ability and willingness to train departmental trainees (eg students, residents, new staff).Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of pharmacy and the medication use process.Must possess strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to translate computer technology to user friendly language.Must be a technical expert in areas subject matter demonstrated by documented experience in analysis, process design and workflow, research, installation/implementation and support of software applications and systems.Proven ability to deliver IT solutions through the entire systems development lifecycle (requirements, design, build, test, deploy, and support).Knowledge/Experience with reporting, data warehousing and business intelligence tools.Proven prior experience working on project team(s), health care system administration, financial and/or clinical systems support and maintenance as well as general knowledge of major health care information issues.Experience with information systems applicable to the medication use process including but not limited to electronic medical records, smart pump technologies and databases, perpetual inventory management software, automated dispensing cabinets, medication carousels, dispensing robots, point-of-sale cash registers, and barcode medication administration.Ability to prioritize responsibilities and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Qualifications QualificationsRequiredAdvanced degree (PharmD, or MS) or equivalent clinical practice experience.Demonstrated human relation, effective communication, and computer literacy skills.Licenses RequiredCurrent licensure to dispense controlled substances in the State of Utah. Current Pharmacist license in the State of Utah.* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department. Qualifications (Preferred) PreferredPGY1 Residency training or equivalent clinical experience.PGY2 in Pharmacy Informatics, Master's Degree in Healthcare Informatics or equivalent informatics experience.Inpatient pharmacy operations experience with compounding and repackaging, dispensing, order verification, and dispensing automation.Working Conditions and Physical Demands
