Job Description

SUMMARY

Responsible for but not limited to the maintenance, repairs, installation and improvement of Injection, Resin and all department auxiliary support equipment to ensure it operates at its full potential with minimal downtime.  Requires complete and overall knowledge of Injection Molding processes and the ability to instill good manufacturing practices and guidelines into final product through leadership by example and by managing and developing the maintenance team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure operations are completed in accordance with Amcor Rigid Plastic’s safety procedures and ensures team members are working in a safe manner and identifies and corrects unsafe work practices Fully involved with Maintenance Manager and with local management team.  Provides technical input, solutions and options on improving productivity/efficiencies and product quality for area of responsibility. Works with Injection Maintenance Manager to establish priorities for the maintenance function/department and works closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure the effective utilization of available resources. Provides coordinated supervision of the injection maintenance personnel and by positive communication and leadership strives to create a motivated, skilled workforce.  Assesses skills and recommends or provides training to ensure department personnel are technically competent to maintain equipment in use at the facility. Effectively communicates issues and suggest corrective action to shift supervisor, maintenance manager and operations manager. Assist production as needed to ensure machine efficiencies and the proper training of shift Mechanics for the injection operation. Track and coordinate the movement of molds from and to the facility. Responsible for the improvement and compliance of preventative maintenance programs.  Ensures that all scheduled maintenance tasks are complete and continuously look for ways to improve the Preventive Maintenance program. Ensures work is documented. Report any deficiencies of the implementation and/or substance of the Preventive Maintenance Program. Ensures correct usage and sign out of parts and that all requisitions for spare parts are in the MRO system for the approval process. Ensures all repair work is documented through FMS or other systems the company/plant may decide to use.

Oversees the Changeover crew to ensure quick, reliable job changes are occurring.  Implements ideas for improvement. Assists in the handling and resolution of employee complaints, questions and suggestions. Performs other related duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager to insure the smooth and orderly operation of finished product movement in the area assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for 12 hours, and is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel, and climb stairs.  Regularly uses hands to handle and feel product.  The employee is regularly required to communicate with other employees and be aware of sounds in the plant.  The employee must also frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed near moving mechanical parts and occasionally in high, precarious places.  Safety glasses are required to be worn.  The noise level is loud, requiring hearing protection to be worn.  GMP procedures are observed in all areas of the plant.

AUTHORIZATION

Ability to shut down any machine if it poses an imminent danger to employee’s health and/or safety. Ability to shut down any machine because of a quality problem so suspect material can be contained. Ability to shut down any if it is down three times in one hour for the same mechanical problem. Authority to contact any staff or management team member with concerns, questions or suggestions pertaining to their job or work environment. Initiate Corrective Actions for violations of Company policies. Recommend hiring, termination and promotions of subordinates. Approve expenditures up to pre-determined amount identified by corporate guidelines without prior approval of Department Manager.
