A dynamic individual with a passion for public health and reducing preventable injuries, due to violence, mental health, or substance misuse is sought to join our Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division team as the Division Director. This position plays a crucial role in improving the health of Minnesotans by directing the work of the Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division. The Division Director will establish measures for injury and violence prevention, surveillance, control, and mental wellbeing. The position has the opportunity to build and sustain innovative programs and partnerships that integrate health equity, and the leadership of the role will be vital in maintaining key relationships with diverse partners, including federal and state agencies, local health departments, health systems, academic institutions, and community-based organizations. This position is dedicated to advancing health equity, racial equity, and social justice. The work will to operationalize equity across systems, processes, and programming, creating a dynamic and equitable culture of success for all Minnesotans, particularly those experiencing health disparities. Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: + Lead and provide strategic direction to the Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division. + Oversee fiscal leadership and management, ensuring alignment with the Division's strategic priorities and maintaining fiscal accountability. + Direct and coordinate policy development related to injury, violence, and substance misuse prevention. + Participate as an active member of the MDH Senior Management Team, aiding leadership in evaluating the potential outcomes of various actions, representing the Department/Division at the MN Legislature as needed, and contributing to interagency teams and committees to support and enhance the Agency's work. Work may be conducted in-person in St. Paul, or as telework for applicants who reside in MN, IA, WI, ND, or SD, based on the business needs of the unit and supervisor discretion. Position location will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of the closest MDH office location: Bemidji, Duluth, Fergus Falls, Marshall, Rochester, St. Cloud, or St. Paul. Attendance to various in person meetings and legislative hearings in St. Paul is required. **Minimum Qualifications** _To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure your resume/application clearly describe your experience in the areas listed below and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of the minimum qualifications will be considered for this position._ Four (4) years' experience in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Public Health, Public Administration, Health Care Administration, Public Policy, Nursing, Medicine, or Environmental Health, directing one or more major health program area. Experience to include both of the following: + Supervising professional level staff. + Financial oversight such as budgetary oversight, contract or grant management. A degree in public health, community health, public health administration, epidemiology, microbiology, environmental health, medicine, or related field may count towards professional experience as follows: + Associate's= 6 months. + Bachelor’s = 12 months. + Master’s = 18 months. + Doctoral = 24 months. To be assessed at interview: + Knowledge of local public health, community-based organization and health systems and health care provider groups impacting injury, violence, and substance misuse prevention activities. + Ability to plan, organize and direct a statewide program in injury, violence, or substance misuse prevention. + Ability to gain support and cooperation in the analysis and design of a system of evaluation of programs. + Knowledge of the public health financing programs including grant administration. **Preferred Qualifications** + Knowledge of the application of epidemiologic principles in the design of public health programs. + Thorough knowledge of the MDH functions, program policies and procedures. + Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to state and local public health programs. + Experience adopting and innovating ideas and fostering collaboration. + Knowledge of injury, violence, and substance misuse surveillance systems, including methods of data collection, data management, data analysis and distribution of results. **Additional Requirements** + This position requires successful completion of a background check. + This employment does not require a valid driver’s license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting. + The successful candidate under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins.
