Innovation Advisor, Emerging Technology, Office of Innovation

Overview:

Leads and drives advisory and piloting of emerging technology solutions to address client needs, industry challenges, and various business problems. Works with technology, strategy, and innovation teams throughout the piloting process, from concept through proof of concept and beyond. Oversees project teams delivering emerging technology solutions to support the overall vision, strategy, and execution of the solution.          

Primary Responsibilities:

Define the emerging technology use cases and strategy with inputs from key stakeholders. Provide the voice of the customer in key strategic discussions.

Work with strategy and innovation teams to understand the emerging technology ecosystem; help clients explore the art of the possible by crafting and executing strategies for identifying, evaluating, and integrating emerging technologies to deliver business value in the most effective way

Build, manage, and maintain the emerging technology roadmap and features.

Advise on emerging technology solutions and communicate the value proposition of the solutions to key stakeholders.

Define outcome-based product KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), not just lists of features, to organize work and measure success.

Work with design and innovation teams to gain an understanding of user personas, pain points and journeys; serve as voice of the customer and synthesize product feedback from key stakeholders.

Set near-term emerging technology priorities in support of the overall vision, effectively balancing short and long-term objectives to deliver maximum value.

Work with strategy, design, and technology teams to prioritize and deliver on key emerging technology use cases using an iterative and agile approach.

Be a champion of the proof of concept and drive towards product-market fit by identifying high-impact use cases where emerging technologies can be applied – grounding those use cases in a deep understanding of client needs, industry challenges, and the potential of various technologies to solve specific problems

Oversee and ensure effective overall delivery by championing lean startup, agile, and other innovation best practices across the team.

Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Complete other related duties as assigned.

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

The position directly manages a team of 2-4 individuals.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience

6 or more years’ experience with emerging technology development and launching digital products

2 or more years’ work leadership, supervisory, and/or managerial experience

Familiarity with common Project Management tools for sprint planning roadmaps, analytics, and tracking, etc.

Strong understanding of emerging technologies and how to identify technical requirements

Knowledge of best practices and thinking related to emerging technology development

Prior experience in thinking strategically and creatively

Superior interpersonal skills

Superior verbal and written communication skills

Detail-oriented

Strong technical intuition

Prior experience managing time and schedules to meet aggressive deadlines

Strong influencing skills  

Entrepreneurial spirit

Prior experience working with all levels of the organization

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA (master’s degree in business administration) or other advanced degree

Strong credibility and relationships within the Bank

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $115,703.73 - $192,839.55 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
