Innovation Brand Manager 

 

The Senior Innovation Manager, Design will be responsible for leading, creating, developing, and finalizing a robust upstream 3-5 year innovation pipeline for Bayer Canada. The individual will identify need spaces, then build new products through 1) identifying and developing relationships with contract manufacturers (CMOs), 2) leveraging global hardware or 3) working with Bayer R&D to create new products.

What you will do:

Builds framework for consumer demand spaces using consumer or market data. Identifies how new products meet demand spaces and provide competitive differentiation and potential for building category growth. Conducts external screening to find new products or manufacturing sites that have products that fill these demand spaces.  Stays in touch with trends / new products from other countries that could be reapplied for use in Canada.Leads concept development, including development of claims, pricing and position strategy.  Leads end-to-end research with outside agencies to validate commercial and volume potential.  Develops business case based on research/benchmarking, financial constraints and secures team and/or leadership alignment.  Identifies, and then builds relationships with CMOs.  Works with internal project management, legal, innovation general manager and product supply to negotiate third party contracts, finalize product readiness/specifications and prepare for launch.Leads all commercial readiness of new product launch up until sales deck delivery.  Includes activities not limited to 1) promotion, placement and channel strategies, 2) claims development/positioning and approval with Health Canada, 3) packaging/instore design, 4) sell in strategy including trade marketing priorities, etc.  Does not include development of advertising campaigns, media or consumer activation as this is led by the Brand Team.Works across numerous local brands or other projects on an as needed basis..  May be asked to assist in acquisition or divestment assessments, as required.

 

Who you are:

Senior level of experience in innovation management, product development, or related fields, with a focus on CPG, OTC, or life sciences.Proven track record in leading product development projects from ideation through to successful commercialization.Experience working with external partners such as CMOs and internal R&D.Bachelor’s and/or Masters degree.

Skills and competencies should include the following:

Proven success in innovation work, with experience scoping/starting and aligning new initiatives, understanding/mining and applying consumer insights, consumer cocreation and design thinking concepts, concept writing, innovation theories, tools and techniques, as well as the ability to translate these practices into meaningful innovation results through the implementation and delivery stages. Experience translating own vision into action.Analytical Acumen: Superior analytical ability, assessing different analytical option models and related outputs. Experience with business forecasting and leading end to end consumer research. Must be curious with an openness to new thinking balanced with realistic business needs.Collaborates with accountability and an inclusion mindset; ability to themselves and others accountable across teams while respecting differences and embracing inclusion.Working knowledge of retail and regulatory environments.
