Innovation Intern
Carlisle Corporation
Project Summary: This internship at Carlisle Construction Materials is designed to innovate and enhance commercial roofing systems through two integrated focus areas:
Innovative Attachment Technologies: Exploring and validating new technologies such as induction heating to reduce labor in anchoring roof assemblies, while maintaining system durability against environmental stresses. Thermal Efficiency Optimization: Researching and designing roofing systems that improve thermal efficiency, reducing the overall energy load and carbon footprint of buildings.Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and develop new attachment methods for roofing systems, focusing on labor efficiency and effectiveness. Utilize computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and energy modeling software (EnergyPlus) to simulate and validate roofing designs. Collaborate across departments (Sales, Marketing, R&D) to transform research into practical, marketable solutions. Analyze data to propose improvements in roofing materials and construction that lead to better energy efficiency and sustainability. Lead the creation and testing of prototypes for both attachment methods and thermal performance enhancements.Qualifications:
Experience with computational fluid dynamics modeling (CFD) and energy simulation software. Strong foundation in the principles of physics, especially electromagnetism for induction processes and thermal dynamics for energy efficiency. Proficiency in engineering and modeling tools such as COMSOL, Autodesk, and SolidWorks. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage projects from conception through execution. Must be able to work on-site in Carlisle, PA and travel locally as needed for project requirements.Additional Information:
Location: Carlisle, PA The role may include travel to local installation sites to observe and gather data on roofing system implementations.
