Innovative Environments Manager - Terrain Parks and Grooming

Location: Soda Springs, California

As a member of the resort leadership team, the Innovative Environments Manager is responsible for the short, medium, and long-term planning and execution of our snow-based products including Grooming, Terrain Parks, and summer sport venues at each resort. Manages multiple priorities including safety, service, events, and financial responsibilities. Creates a safety minded, efficient operational environment.

This is a full-time year-round position with a robust benefits package including Flexible Time Off, matching 401k, Health Benefits, Annual Bonus Incentive Program and a proposed annual salary of $75,000.

Work with Marketing and Brand Management to ensure cohesive direction of terrain parks, summer terrain and venues, and implementation of partner activations.

Strategic planning to maintain company position as an industry leader within these departments.

Responsible for leading the operations, direction and management of the Innovative Environment departments, including Grooming, Terrain Parks, and Summer Sport venues across all BRC platforms.

Hiring, training and overseeing department Assistant Managers and staff. Responsible for departmental Employee Engagement results and actions.

Developing, utilizing and following safety policies and procedures for staff and guests.

Effective planning, utilization and implementation of resources to achieve resort operating plan and standards.

Effective and efficient use of resources to build and manage to department budgets and company goals.

Excellent guest service standards attained. Responsible for departmental Guest Research results and actions.

Planning: Builds and follows operating budget and schedules for the departments. Follows established requisition processes. Works with Senior Leadership Team to provide a prioritized capital expenditure requests.

Staffing: Create staffing schedule, develop staff into teams based on skills, personalities, etc. Hire, evaluate, discipline, and discharge when necessary. Update job descriptions, JHA, input on wage and benefit issues, document sensitive issues. Follow established policies and approved budgets when hiring. 

Delegation: Provide adequate authority to staff within defined limits. Give assignments that develop others while allowing time to concentrate on managerial duties. Develop systems to ensure that delegated tasks are done properly. Use daily “to do” lists and project schedules to accomplish goals.

Training: Train and lead new and experienced workers and improve employee performance through training and evaluation during the season. Participate in, and provide input for orientation and other in-house training. Cross train employees both within the department and to ensure knowledge of other Resort facilities and services. Attend management training courses as required.

Monitoring: Manage by observing staff performance and general quality of operations. Utilize daily and monthly reports, general ledger monthly reports to monitor progress, and react accordingly.

Personnel Policies: Ensure staff complies with all personnel policies, including nametags, uniforms, appearance, and behavior. Understands and supports personnel policies. 

Influencing: Motivate subordinates and peers toward company and department goals   Ensure standards are met for grooming, uniforms, guest relations, procedures, safety.

Controlling: Monitor for completion & accuracy – DMR, departmental reports, payroll accuracy, purchase requisitions, and incident reports. 

Communication: Responsible for communications upward, across departmental lines and to subordinates. Establish and follow chain of command, maintain direct lines of communication with Director and Senior Manager of Mountain Operations. Provide current company information to staff regarding events, schedules, policies, and promotions. Actively participates in scheduled meetings. Address any customer concerns in a polite and effective manner.

Decision Making:  Expected to lead solutions focused decision making process in all situations. Utilize all company resources while making decisions. Consider consistency within and across departmental lines with decisions.

Follow Instructions:  Applies information as directed from appropriate members in the chain of command.

Complies with Company Safety Goals: Always operate with safety in mind, both for guests and employees. Ensure all employees participate in weekly safety meeting programs. Share monthly safety committee meeting minutes with staff. Follow safe work practices and be aware of good risk management practices. Proactively monitor and make adjustments regarding any identified hazards.

Position Requirements: 

Strong understanding of grooming and terrain park operations.

Have a high-level understanding of resort operations with management experience in safety requirements, planning, purchasing, budgeting, training and multiple department leadership.

Dependable, accurate and honest.

Strong communication and human relations skills. Creates good working relationships with guests and fellow employees.

Experience with budgeting, forecasting and strategy.

Ability to perform under adverse working conditions.

Risk management skills and knowledge including design, construction, education and investigation.
