Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient

Cleveland Clinic has a mission of delivering timely and accurate prescription services while educating patients on the importance of their medication therapy. Our pharmacies employ some of the best technology and automation in the industry, allowing caregivers to focus on patient care and physician support. This team is centered on providing prescription products, compounds and over-the-counter supplies while also providing drug information to patients and providers.
A caregiver in this position works day/evening rotation, 7:00am—3:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, including completion of necessary documentation.
Prepare, deliver and collect all pharmacy items throughout the medical center including re-stocking of automated dispensing cabinets.
Perform floor checks, stock checks, and assigned unit review as required.
Complete all Pharmacy Keeper Activities and inspections assigned to their position.
Assist Pharmacists in monitoring stock for outdated medications and properly disposing of them in a timely manner.
Process medication returns/refunds to patient accounts.
Compound non-sterile medications according to USP795 regulations.
Prepackage medication as necessary and according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Answer telephones and assist callers with needs that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist.
Interact with EPIC, our dispensing automation software (e.g. Pyxis, Carousels, etc.) and Pharmacy Keeper software to answer all questions related to the processing of a medication order.
Assist customers at the service window including caregivers, couriers and others as needed.
Completes mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
A high school diploma or GED.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Proficient typing skills.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’s degree or completion of some college coursework.
Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Previous experience in a hospital inpatient pharmacy.
Previous experience with EPIC or other similar programs.
Understanding of medical terminology and calculations.
Proficient technical skills used in pharmacy practice.
